About SPSV test:
The SPSV Test must be passed by all applicants before they can apply for an SPSV driver licence. It is designed to verify that the applicant knows the SPSV Regulations, that they are familiar with good practice in the industry, and that they have a good working knowledge of the county in which they wish to operate.

This test (totally of 90 questions) includes two modules:
** The Industry Knowledge Test (54 questions)
** The Area Knowledge Test (36 questions)

Apply For SPSV Licence :
To apply for SPSV licence, you must satisfy a number of requirements:
1. The SPSV Entry Test must be passed by all applicants before they can apply for an SPSV driver licence.

This test (totally of 90 questions) includes two modules:
** The Industry Knowledge Test (54 questions)
** The Area Knowledge Test (36 questions)

2. Full Irish driving licence – Class B or highe, free from disqualification and free from endorsement – or an equivalent licence from an EU or EEA Member State or another recognised state.

3. Tax clearance certificate.:
This is the TC2 certificate, obtainable from your local Revenue office, which confirms that your tax affairs are up to date. (Note that the name on the certificate must be identical to the name on the licence application and must be valid on the date on which the SPSV driver licence is granted.)

4. Paid the licence fee to the National Transport Authority – 250 €:
This can be paid over the phone using credit or debit card (phone 0761 064 000). You will receive a receipt for this fee. (Note that this fee is non-refundable and should be paid only after you have successfully completed the SPSV Entry Test.)

5. Have 2 identical passport-style photographs:
Each measuring approximately 10cm by 7cm, showing your head and shoulders and complying in other respects with standards for passport photographs.

When you meet all requirements you are able to register for the SPSV licence.

How to become a taxi driver in Ireland:
Whether you drive your own vehicle, drive a vehicle owned by someone else, or work as an employee for a dispatch operator or another third party, you must comply with the SPSV regulations.

To become a taxi driver you must have the following:
SPSV licence:
You must have an SPSV driver licence in addition to your regular driving licence.

A licensed SPSV:
The vehicle that you operate must be associated with an active vehicle licence.

A valid certificate of insurance:
The vehicle must be insured to operate as an SPSV.

A valid certificate of roadworthiness:
The vehicle must have an NCT certificate.

Taxi licence Ireland:
To get a Taxi licence in Ireland you will need to:
#1 Get the SPSV licence:
1. Prepare for the SPSV test to operate in the SPSV industry

2. Book and pay for your SPSV test – €85.05

3. Pass the SPSV test and receive the test certificate.

4. Pay the SPSV driver licence fee – €250. When you will receive your test certificate in the post, contact the Commission and pay your driver licence fee of €250 by phoning 1890 347 347. A receipt will be issued to you. Note that you do not pay the Commission the SPSV driver licence fee until you have passed the test and received your test certificate.

5. Apply for your SPSV driver licence. Obtain a PSV 15/18 application form from your local Garda station. To complete the form you must carry:
** Your photographs;
** A current tax clearance certificate;
** Your driving licence;
** Your SPSV Skills Development Certificate;
** The receipt of your licence fee;

6. PSV licence application Garda processing. Your application will be processed by An Garda Siochana (up to 12 weeks to complete). The process includes an assessment of you as a “fit and proper person” to hold an SPSV driver licence. Please await confirmation of this from An Garda Siochana. You will receive your ID card and smart card in the post from the Commission.

7. Becoming operational. On receipt of your SPSV driver ID card and smart card, you are entitled to drive any of the five categories of SPSV (taxi, wheelchair accessible taxi, hackney, wheelchair accessible hackney, limousine). The vehicle you drive must be licensed as an SPSV. If it is a taxi or wheelchair accessible taxi, you may stand or ply for hire only in the county (or counties) for which you are licensed. And you must provide the Authority with details of any vehicle you are driving as an SPSV. (e.g. Co.Dublin).
