How To Book For NCTS NCT/ Re-Test?

Follow the below procedure for NCT/ Re-Test booking. For more derails, kindly visit National Car Testing Service (NCTS).

Internet Bookings

There is currently heavy demand for NCT appointments on-line. If the only dates available fall beyond the expiry of your current NCT, please contact our booking helpdesk on 01 4135992

To use our online facility, you will need a credit/debit card and then simply type in your car registration number + Booking I.D (which can be found at the top of your NCT Booking letter) or date of first registration of the vehicle (which can be found on your vehicle registration book, registration certificate or licensing certificate).

Telephone Bookings

We have a dedicated team who are available to help you with booking your test, just call our Booking line on:

01-4135992 from 8am to 8pm (Mon-Thurs) and 8am to 6pm (Fri) for confirmations, re-arrangements or cancellations of appointments

We are no longer offering the facility of a 1890 number as the caller may incur a higher cost than when calling a national numbe

Booking Procedure:
If your car is eligible for the NCT please refer to the testing chart in the frequently asked questions section then please phone us on 01-4135992 or you can check our on-line service by simply typing in your car registration number and date of first registration of the vehicle (which can be found on your vehicle registration book, registration certificate or licensing certificate).

Cars that have been off the road or have not been taxed for over 3 months it will be necessary for the owner of the vehicle to contact NCTS directly themselves.

Based on your test due date, NCTS can issue your certificate up to 3 months early

Vehicle owners who wish to present their vehicle for inspection earlier than 90 days before their NCT due date will now be allowed to do so.

Where this happens the vehicle will receive a 2 year (or 1 year for 10 year old and older vehicles) certificate duration from the date it passes the test.

Once the customer HAS CONFIRMED an appointment with NCTS, it can still be rearranged by using our on-line booking service or phoning 01-4135992.

Remember:
If you cancel your confirmed appointment with less than five working days notice (Mon. – Fri., not including the day you contact NCTS) or fail to show up for the test, a €22.00 surcharge will be applied when you next bring your car for testing. A similar surcharge of €11.50 will apply in the case of a re-test.

Any queries relating to the cancellation fee may be made in writing to the Customer Service Department, National Car Testing Service Ltd., Lakedrive 3026, Citywest Business Campus, Naas Road, Dublin 24.

All RE-TESTS must be booked within 21 days of the initial test. Re-test which do not require the use of a test lane, will be free of charge. Free re-tests will cover minor visual items such as replacement of windscreen wiper and registration plates.

Re-tests must be completed within 30 days of the initial test or a full test will need to be repeated and charged accordingly.

Additional Simplified Procedure

You can book for an NCTS NCT/Re-Test through the NCTS website or by calling the NCTS Contact Center.

Here are the steps on how to do it:
To book through the NCTS website:
1. Go to the NCTS website: https://www.ncts.ie/.
2. Click on the “Book an NCT” tab.
3. Enter your vehicle registration number.
4. Click on the “Search” button.
5. Select the date and time of your preferred appointment.
6. Click on the “Book” button.
7. You will be asked to pay the NCT fee.
8. Once you have paid the fee, your appointment will be confirmed.

To book through the NCTS Contact Center:
1. Call the NCTS Contact Center: 01-413-5992.
2. Provide the following information:
** Your name
** Your contact details
** Your vehicle registration number
** The date and time of your preferred appointment
3. Pay the NCT fee over the phone.
4. Your appointment will be confirmed.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind when booking for an NCTS NCT/Re-Test:
** You can book for an NCT up to 3 months in advance.
** You can only book for an NCT at an NCTS test centre.
** The cost of an NCT is €55 for a car and €66 for a van.
** You must bring your vehicle registration certificate with you to your NCT appointment.
** You must also bring your vehicle tax disc if it is due.
** If you fail your NCT, you will need to book a re-test.
** You can only re-test your vehicle once within 14 days of your original test.
** The cost of a re-test is €22.

  1. I live in UK but also have a house in Laois Ireland. That house is registered in my name and I pay the LPT tax on that property. MY PPS number is 1672203JA. I will be spending most of my time in Ireland as I am now retired. I would like to register my car in Ireland which I acquired on 29.06.2017. I have completed the registration form but will not be back to Ireland until approximately 08/02/2018.
    Can you please tell me what other documents I need to bring with me when I go for the registration appointment and finally where do I make the appointment bearing? I will be living in Co Laois.
