** If you are a nurse who is licensed in a compact state, you have an active compact state license, and you are not moving to Maryland.
** If you have any disciplinary action against you, you must complete an initial paper application first.
** If you do not have a nursing license in another state.

Create a Login in the Transaction Center

Creating an account in the Transaction Center is extremely easy. We need the following information – e-mail address, new password, your first name and last name.

NOTE: Providing us a true and valid e-mail id is very important. Not only will we use your e-mail address as the login ID, but we will also use it to send important information related to processing your application.

RN/LPN On-line Renewal Instructions

Renew an Existing License or Certification On-line available in the home page.


On-Line License & Certification Renewal page will be opened. You may now Proceed To Log In after reading all instructions.


License renewals can take 5 to 10 days to be processed. If a renewal applicant is required to complete a background check as part of the renewal process, additional processing time beyond 10 days is required.

CNAs & CMTs please remember :
If you pay the on-line renewal fee, you must complete the renewal form on-line
** Complete all on-line data fields
** Pay by Visa or MasterCard credit/debit card
** The RN must complete the on-line Clinical Update (MedTech only)
** The RN must log in as him/herself for the final approval process
You CAN NOT pay the renewal fee on-line and later bring a paper application to the Board. If you choose to submit a paper renewal application, you must submit a money order with the paper application

What is needed to renew on-line?:
You will need :

Who is not eligible to renew on-line?:
The following individuals CAN NOT renew on-line :
** Anyone who has has not renewed his license within 1 year or longer since the last renewal
** Anyone with a felony, misdemeanor, or discipline against a license since last renewal
** Any license type beginning with ‘AC’. This license type belongs to Advanced Practice nurses with a RN license residing in a Compact State
** Anyone in the Board’s database without a SSN

Renewal Fees:
Fees are payable by credit card only. We accept MasterCard and Visa credit or debit cards. Other card companies (American Express, Discover, etc.) will not be accepted! Additional Generic Procedure

To apply for an MBON Maryland license online, you can follow these steps:
1) Go to the Maryland Board of Nursing website: https://mbon.maryland.gov/.
2) Click on the “Online Applications” tab.
3) Select the type of license you are applying for.
4) Follow the instructions on the website to complete your application.
5) Pay the application fee.
6) Upload your required documents.
7) Submit your application.

You can also apply for an MBON Maryland license by mail or in person at the Board’s office. However, the online application is the preferred method.

Here are the required documents for an MBON Maryland license application:

      Criminal History Records Check : (Commonly known as background checks)
      In 2006, House Bill 1318 and Senate Bill 769 were passed requiring criminal history records checks. Criminal history records checks will be required of all new RN and LPN applicants and all CNA applicants after January 2, 2007. In addition, a selected population of RN, LPN and CNA renewal will be required to complete a CHRC to renew an existing license or certification.

  6. I let my RN license lapse in April 2014. Prior to that I had been working at Glen Burnie Health and rehab from February 2011 to December 31, 2013. I had decided to retire, and I would like to renew my license so I can work part time as I miss working as a nurse so much.     1. You may also search by using your name as input. As before, set the Profession match your license/certification type. Enter your last name and first name followed by an asterisk (i.e., Firstname*). The input is case insensitive – it does not matter if you use upper, lower, or mixed case.
