NTA Motor Vehicle Licence

How to effect payment of motor vehicle licence (Declaration)
You can pay the motor vehicle licence for your vehicle at the NTA Head Office in Cassis. Payment for private vehicles (without any other licence attached) may also be effected at the NTA Vehicle Examination Centre (VEC) in Forest Side;

Required Documents

For securing a motor vehicle licence, you have to produce the following document s:
** The registration book of the vehicle.
** A valid insurance certificate.
** A test certificate (fitness) if the vehicle is a private car or motorcycle above 7 years.
** A certificate of fitness if the vehicle is a public service vehicle or a goods vehicle.

Payments can be made for periods of 3 months, 6 months or one year.

What happen if a motor vehicle licence is not renewed upon expiry:
If you do not renew your motor vehicle licence within 15 days of its expiry, you will have to pay a fine of 50% of the amount due upon renewal.

If you do not intend, for any reason whatsoever, to renew your motor vehicle licence, you should, before the date of expiry, notify the Road Transport Commissioner in writing by registered post of your intention not to do so.

Make sure that your letter reaches the Commissioner on or before the date of expiry of your licence otherwise the 50% fine will be applicable.

If you are a new owner of an unlicensed vehicle and you do not intend to take out a motor vehicle licence, you should so notify the Commissioner within 7 days of becoming the owner of the vehicle in order to avoid payment of the 50% fine.

How to get Duplicate Licence?

How to obtain a duplicate motor vehicle licence in case of loss:
Call at the Police Station of your locality to get a memo from the police certifying that you have reported the loss of your motor vehicle licence disc. Call at the NTA with your National Identity Card, the registration book of your vehicle and the memo from the police.

In case of a company, a letter from the company should also be produced authorising you to collect the duplicate licence. You will be issued a duplicate after you have paid the fee of Rs. 200.

How to obtain information on a vehicle?:
Call at the NTA with your original National Identity Card. Fill in the required for specifying the registration mark of the vehicle for which you wish to have information.

Pay the fee of Rs. 200 and you will be issued with a Copy of Entries Form containing information available in the register of motor vehicles for the particular vehicle.

How to obtain information on bus routes, bus fares, time tables?:
Information on bus services can be obtained from the inspectorate of the NTA.

Requests for bus stops, bus shelters, additional services are looked into jointly by the inspectorate and the Planning Section.

How to obtain information on use of parking coupons and parking offences?:
Information on the use of parking coupons, contraventions, parking offences, paid parking zones and paid parking regulations can be obtained from Traffic Wardens.

Additional Simplified Procedure

To apply for an NTA Mauritius Motor Vehicle Licence, you will need to follow these steps:
1. Go to the NTA Mauritius website: https://nlta.govmu.org/.
2. Click on the “Motor Vehicle Licence” tab.
3. Click on the “Apply for a Motor Vehicle Licence” link.
4. You will be taken to the NTA Mauritius Motor Vehicle Licence application form.
5. Fill out the application form and upload the required documents.
6. Click on the “Submit” button.

The required documents for an NTA Mauritius Motor Vehicle Licence application are:
** A completed motor vehicle licence application form.
** A recent photograph that meets the requirements.
** Proof of identity. This can be a passport, driving licence, or birth certificate.
** Proof of address. This can be a utility bill, bank statement, or council tax bill.
** A medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner.

If you are applying for a new motor vehicle licence, you will also need to provide the following documents:
** A registration book for the motor vehicle.
** A certificate of fitness for the motor vehicle.
** A road tax disc for the motor vehicle.

Note:
You will need to pay a fee when you apply for an NTA Mauritius Motor Vehicle Licence. The fee for a new motor vehicle licence is MUR 1,500 and the fee for a renewal of motor vehicle licence is MUR 1,000.

Your NTA Mauritius Motor Vehicle Licence application will be processed by the NTA Mauritius. You will receive an email notification with the status of your application.

The processing time for an NTA Mauritius Motor Vehicle Licence application is usually 2-3 weeks. However, it may take longer if your application is incomplete or if you need to provide additional documents.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind when applying for an NTA Mauritius Motor Vehicle Licence:
** You must be at least 18 years old to apply for a motor vehicle licence in Mauritius.
** You must pass a driving test to obtain a motor vehicle licence in Mauritius.
** You must renew your motor vehicle licence every 3 years.
