How To Register NTA Vehicle?

How to register a vehicle on your name?:
(1) New or second hand imported vehicle:
The vehicle will have to be taken to the Vehicle Examination Centre where a Particulars of Motor Vehicle Form will be issued.

Call at the Registrar General’s Department for the registration of the deed of sale.

Call at the Registration section of the NTA with the following documents:-
** one original deed of sale duly registered + 1 photocopy of the document;
** the original Bill of Entry;
** the Particulars of Motor Vehicle Form obtained from the Vehicle Examination Centre;
** import permit (if the vehicle is a second hand imported one); and
** in case you have reserved a registration mark to be allocated to your vehicle, the receipt of payment for that mark.

The vehicle will be registered on your name and you will be issued with a registration book (horse power) after you have paid the fee of:
(a) Rs 400 for a motor vehicle (other than a motor cycle or autocycle) or trailer; or
(b) Rs 300 for a motor cycle; or
(c) Rs 2,000 for an auto cycle.

(2) Locally assembled vehicle (trailer):
The vehicle will have to be examined at the Vehicle Examination centre and a Particulars of Motor Vehicle Form obtained. A certificate from a local Mechanical Engineer has to be produced on the assembly of the vehicle.

The deed of sale will have to be registered at the Registrar General’s Department.

You will then have to call at the NTA with :
** the original deed of sale duly registered and 1 photocopy of the document; and
** the Particulars of Motor Vehicle Form obtained from the Vehicle Examination Centre.
** The vehicle (trailer) will be registered on your name and you will be issued with a registration book after you have paid the fee of Rs 400.

How to Transfer Ownership of a vehicle?

1. Transfer ownership of a vehicle purchased from someone else:
The previous owner should provide you with the registration book, 2 originals of the deed of sale and a “Certificat de Gage” obtained from the NTA.
The deed of sale should be registered at the Registrar General’s Department within 15 days of the sale transaction.

You should call at the NTA with :
the original deed of sale duly registered + 1 photocopy of the same document; and a valid insurance certificate on your name.

The vehicle will be transferred to your name after you have paid a fee as follows:-
Autocycle – Rs 100
Motorcycle – Rs 200
Other vehicles – Rs 300

2. Transfer ownership of a vehicle purchased at Auction:
You should call at the NTA with :
** the registration book of the vehicle
** the deed of sale duly registered + 1 photocopy thereof
** a Particulars of Motor Vehicle form obtained from the Vehicle Examination Centre certifying the roadworthiness of the vehicle
** a valid insurance certificate on your name.
** The vehicle will be transferred to your name after you have paid the fee for the transfer of ownership.

In case the vehicle needs to be re-registered, an additional fee may be charged as follows:-
Autocycle – Rs 200
Motorcycle – Rs 300
Other vehicles – Rs 400

3. Transfer of ownership of a vehicle in case of death of the registered owner:
You should call at the NTA with :
** the registration book of the vehicle
** the original and 1 photocopy of the affidavit duly registered by the Registrar-General.
** In case of a vehicle with duty concession, a certificate from the Customs Department of the MRA authorizing the transfer of the duty concession to the Succession will have to be produced.
** In case there is a lien inscribed on the vehicle, an authoization from the body in favour of which the lien is inscribed for the transfer of the lien to the Succession will have to be produced.

4. Transfer of ownership of a vehicle under lease agreement:
For any vehicle purchased under a lease agreement, the lease should be cleared prior to any sale being effected. The procedures for transfer of ownership are as follows:

The lessee should call at the NTA with :
** The registration book of the vehicle
** A letter from the leasing company certifying that the lease may be cleared
** 2 originals of the deed of sale
** A letter of authorization from the leasing company allowing him to take out a Certificat de Gage.
** The deed of sale should be registered at the Registrar General’s Department within 15 days of the sale transaction.
** The lessee should call at the NTA with the original deed of sale duly registered + 1 photocopy of the same document and a valid insurance certificate on his name in order to be registered as the owner of the vehicle.
** Once the lessee becomes the owner, he may sell the vehicle to another party.

How to obtain a Certificat de Gage?

A “Certificat de Gage” is a document issued to the owner of a vehicle when his vehicle is being sold. It certifies whether or not the vehicle is burdened with a lien.

The registered owner should call at the NTA with 2 original copies of the deed of sale, the registration book of the vehicle and his original National Identity Card to obtain the “Certificat de Gage” against a payment of Rs 50.

Note:
Clearance from Customs Department will have to be obtained for vehicles on which customs duty was remitted fully or partly or else the “Certificat de Gage” will not be issued.

Functions of NTA Mauritius

The Mauritius National Transport Authority (NTA) is a government agency responsible for regulating the public transport sector in Mauritius.

This includes conducting background checks on operators, ensuring that operators have the necessary financial resources and facilities, and ensuring that operators comply with the NTA’s regulations.
** Monitoring the performance of public transport services: The NTA is responsible for monitoring the performance of public transport services. This includes conducting surveys of public transport users, collecting data on public transport usage, and investigating complaints about public transport services.
** Enforcing regulations governing the public transport sector: The NTA is responsible for enforcing regulations governing the public transport sector. This includes taking disciplinary action against public transport operators who violate the NTA’s regulations.
** Promoting the use of public transport: The NTA is responsible for promoting the use of public transport. This includes providing information about public transport services, developing public transport infrastructure, and coordinating with other government agencies to improve the overall public transport system.

Additional Simplified Procedure

You can register your NTA vehicle online through the NTA’s online portal.

Here are the steps on how to do it:
1. Go to the NTA website: https://www.nta.govmu/
2. Click on the “Vehicle Registration” tab.
3. Under “Online Vehicle Registration”, click on the “Register Your Vehicle” link.
4. You will be redirected to the NTA’s online portal.
5. Login to your account using your username and password.
6. If you do not have an account, you can create one by clicking on the “Create Account” link.
7. Once you are logged in, you will be able to start the registration process.

8. You will need to provide the following information:
** Your vehicle’s registration number
** Your vehicle’s chassis number
** Your vehicle’s engine number
** Your name
** Your address
** Your contact information
** Your passport number
** Your driver’s license number

9. You will also need to upload the following documents:
** A copy of your passport
** A copy of your driver’s license
** A copy of your vehicle’s registration book
** A copy of your vehicle’s insurance certificate

10. Once you have submitted all of the required information and documents, you will receive an email confirmation.
11. The NTA will review your application and process it within 10 working days.
12. If your application is approved, you will receive an email notification.
13. You can then download your vehicle registration certificate from the NTA’s online portal.

Here are some additional tips for registering your NTA vehicle online:
** Start the registration process at least 3 months before your vehicle registration expires.
** Make sure that you have all of the required information and documents ready before you start the registration process.
** Upload clear and legible copies of your documents.
** Be patient. It may take a few weeks for your application to be processed.
** If you have any questions, you can contact the NTA for assistance.
