However, please note that the nearest Singapore Mission at your destination may not necessarily be accredited to the country you are in. If there is no Singapore Mission nearby, you may wish to call the MFA Duty Officer in Singapore at (65) 6379-8800.

Legalisation of Government Documents:
All documents issued by the Singapore Government Departments (eg. Registry of Marriage Certificates, Birth Certificates and Educational Certificates from local government schools) in their original text will be directly legalised by MFA. However, computer generated documents eg. Registrar of Marriage Search, Certificate of Making Decree Nisi Absolute, Adoption Petition, Business Profile from ACRA etc, must be certified by the issuing department first before presenting to MFA for legalisation.

Original certified hardcopy of the search result for marriage records issued by the Registry of Marriage can be presented to MFA for legalisation. (note: this does not refer to the print-screen image of result generated through free online search services for marriage records)

For legalisation of true copies, please present the photocopy together with the original document for verification.

Legalisation of Non-Government Documents:
Non-government documents (foreign / private / company documents) must be first referred to a Notary Public (any law firm offering notarial services) for notarisation and then to the Singapore Academy of Law (1 Supreme Court Lane, Level 5M, Singapore 178879, Tel: 63324117 (Authentication Services Enquiries)/ Fax: 63339747, Email: conp@sal.org.sg for certification before the documents can be presented at MFA for legalisation.

Commercial documents such as Invoices, Bills of Sales, Certificates of Origin, Fumigation certificates, etc should be certified or seen by any of the four Chambers of Commerce (International, Chinese, Indian & Malay) or the Singapore Manufacturers’ Association before presenting to MFA for legalisation.

Fees Chargeable:
A fee of S$10/- is chargeable for each legalisation of document, payable by Nets or Cashcard.

FAQ :
What can our Consular Officer assist in?
** Provide you with information, advice and consular assistance.
** Issue you with an emergency travel document if you have lost your Singapore passport overseas.

Note : It is an Immigration requirement that you report the loss of your passport to the local police and furnish our Mission with a copy of this report.

** Contact your relatives or friends to request them to send you emergency funds for your repatriation or other necessary emergency expenses. For cases known to our Consular Officers, you may also remit online here.
** Notify your next-of-kin in the event you are injured abroad.
** Notify your next-of-kin in the event you are arrested or detained abroad.

** Visit a Singapore citizen who has been arrested or imprisoned abroad and monitor that due process under the judicial system of that country is accorded to him or her.
** Help to obtain a list of officially registered local lawyers and translation services, where this is available.

** Help in arranging for the remains and personal belongings of a deceased Singaporean to be returned to Singapore.
** Help you during emergencies such as natural disasters or civil disorder in the foreign country.

What can our Consular Officer not assist in?
** Pay your medical, hospital, legal, accommodation, travel or other bills.

** Provide loans or cash your cheques.
** Post bails or pay fines on your behalf.
** Intervene in the judicial process of a foreign country or ignore local laws.
** Intervene in or act as an intermediary in disputes which are of a civil or commercial nature.

** Provide legal advice or initiate court proceedings on your behalf.
** Act as your guarantor or sponsor.
** Arrange for your accommodation or for your employment.
** Provide translation, mail-forwarding, telephone, fax/telex or other personal services.

What you should do for yourself ?
** Proper pre-trip preparations and sensible precautions while abroad can help to minimize problems during your trip. The following is a list of what to do before you travel and what to do if you get into trouble overseas.

Before you go :
** Register on-line with MFA via our eRegister system at eregister.mfa.gov.sg/;
** Ensure that your passport has at least 6 months validity.

** Check visa requirements of the countries that you are visiting and/or transiting.
** Ensure that you have valid onward/return tickets, if applicable.
** Check health and vaccination requirements of the countries that you are visiting and/or transiting.
** Bring adequate funds for the duration and purpose of your stay.

** Apply for an Exit Permit (applicable to male Singapore citizens on National Service).
** Purchase full travel and medical insurance to cover illness, injury and loss of money, baggage, tickets etc.
** Find out more about the country you intend to visit, particularly if there are any cultural sensitivities.

** Bring your doctor’s prescription if you have to carry medication or drugs. You may need to show this at the customs checkpoint.
** Carry photocopies of your identity card and passport data page, credit cards and note down travel cheque numbers if any.

** Obtain contact details of the nearest Singapore Mission.
** Leave a copy of your itinerary with your family/friends in Singapore or inform them where you are going and how you may be contacted.

While you are there :
** Obey the laws and respect the local customs of the country you are visiting.
** Take special care of your passport and other documents of identification and keep them in a safe place, preferably separate from the rest of your luggage.

** Do not carry too much cash or other valuables.
** Never leave your belongings unattended.
** Always take care of your personal safety and security.
** Never carry packages through customs on behalf of other people.

** Beware of the food and drinks you consume in areas where hygiene standards are low.
** Check the customs regulations concerning import and export of items.
** If you drive, make sure that you have an International Driving Permit.
** Make sure you know the local rules of the road.

** Ensure that you, your passengers and the vehicle are covered by insurance.
** Read the fine print before signing car hire agreements.
** Stay in touch with your family in Singapore and inform them of any change in your itinerary or contact details

Registration :
** Register on-line with MFA via our eRegister system at eregister.mfa.gov.sg;
** Your registration can help MFA and our Overseas Missions contact you to render the necessary consular assistance during an emergency or crisis (e.g. natural disasters, civil unrest etc)

** Remember to inform the Singapore Mission of any subsequent change of address/telephone numbers/your departure from that country or update your new contact details in the eRegister system.
