MOE-AU Scholarship recipients will be supported in their undergraduate studies with developmental opportunities, academic mentorship and internships to introduce them to and prepare them for a career in academia.

The scholarship covers full sponsorship for undergraduate courses for any course of study, subject to the scholarship board’s approval. The degrees can be read at any reputable local or overseas university. Full-term and mid-term options for the scholarship are available.

Each scholarship recipient will be paired with the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University or Singapore Management University. Subsequently, the scholar will apply for and obtain a PhD scholarship from their paired AU.

The bond for the undergraduate and postgraduate portions will run concurrently for a total maximum bond period of six years to be served in an academic position at the paired AU, after the completion of the scholars’ postgraduate study.

Application for the MOE-AU Scholarship is now open. Full-term and mid-term applications will close on 31st March 2015 and 31st May 2015 respectively.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What criteria do I have to fulfil in order to apply for the scholarship?:
The MOE-AU Scholarship is an undergraduate scholarship for students who are interested in pursuing an academic career at one of our local Autonomous Universities (AUs). The MOE-AU Scholarship provides support at the undergraduate level, to help prepare recipients for future academic careers.

How does the MOE-AU Scholarship work?:
MOE-AU scholarship recipients are paired to a specific AU upon receipt of the scholarship. This facilitates development opportunities for the scholar, as the AU is able to start building a relationship with the scholar right from the start. Scholars can express their preferences to be paired to a specific AU in the application form. Currently, MOE-AU scholarship recipients may be paired to NUS, NTU or SMU.

The MOE-AU Scholarship sponsors recipients for up to four years of undergraduate studies, after which the scholar is expected to apply for and obtain an AU-sponsored postgraduate scholarship to pursue a PhD from the AU to which they are paired.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) Overseas Graduate Scholarship (OGS) is one example of an AU-sponsored postgraduate scholarship that applicants may apply for upon completion of their undergraduate studies.

What does the MOE-AU Scholarship cover?:
The MOE-AU Scholarship covers:
** All tuition and compulsory fees.
** A monthly stipend, to cover accommodation and sustenance costs.
** A one-off pre-studies allowance.
** Return economy airfare (only for scholars pursuing studies overseas).
** Sponsorship for one overseas exchange programme (only for scholars pursuing studies at local universities).

How long do scholars have to complete their studies?:
Scholars have up to four years to complete their undergraduate studies, and are required to complete both their undergraduate and postgraduate studies leading to the award of a PhD within nine years.

Extensions can be considered on a case-by-case basis, in exceptional circumstances (e.g. if the scholar pursues his/her studies in non-traditional countries).

Some possible timelines are as follows:
** Undergraduate (3 years) + Masters (1 year) + PhD (5 years)
** Undergraduate (3 years) + PhD (6 years)
** Undergraduate (4 years) + PhD (5 years)

Scholarship recipients should discuss their academic plans and proposed timelines with their Scholarship Officers.

Who is eligible to apply for the MOE-AU Scholarship?:
Applicants must be Singapore Citizens. They should have a strong interest in pursuing an academic career at one of the local Autonomous Universities, and demonstrate high achievement and aptitude for the academic field or subject that they wish to specialise in.

For full-term applicants, they should be in their final year of pre-university studies or already in possession of pre-university qualifications. Applicants with GCE ‘A’ Levels, International Baccalaureate (IB), NUS High School, Polytechnic Diploma, or equivalent qualifications are welcome to apply.

For mid-term applicants, they should have completed at least one academic semester of their undergraduate studies, but have not embarked on the final year of study at the point of application.
