Submit information using forms:
Businesses, organisations and foundations can submit information to both the PRH and the Tax Administration by using one single notification form. You submit information by filling in a notification form and by sending it to the address given on the form.

Download form templates, in Finnish and in English, to register a new business, organisation or foundation (‘Start-up Notification’), or to submit changes or close down business (‘Notification on Amendments or Termination of Business’). Please note that you can use the bilingual forms in Finnish and in English but that you have to fill in them in Finnish or in Swedish.

Business IDs and company search:
All businesses, organisations and foundations recorded in the Business Information System obtain a Business Identity Code (Business ID). BIS Search provides basic details of Finnish businesses, organisations and foundations free of charge.

Business ID:
The Business ID (Business Identity Code) is a code given to businesses and organisations by the authorities. It replaces the Trade Register Number, Foundation Register Number and Business Code used before. The Business ID consists of seven digits, a dash and a control mark, i.e. it has the form 1234567-8. The code identifies the business but it is not possible to conclude on the basis of it if the business actually has been registered. That must be checked separately with the registration authorities or in the information service on this website.

How to get a Business ID:
A new business will get a Business ID as soon as the authorities have entered the start-up notification in the Business Information System. The registration authorities and the information service, BIS Search, on this website will provide the Business ID in approximately two working days from the filing of such notification.

Please note that notifications to the Register of Associations cannot not be submitted through the Business Information System. A non-profit association, however, has a Business ID if it has been reported to the Trade Register or to a register of the Tax Administration by using form Y1.

Rules for BIS Search:
The free information service of the Business Information System is meant for checking information concerning individual businesses.

To be able to provide all users with an even-handed information service without backlogs we obey the following rules:
Searches by search robots are forbidden.
A maximum of 1,000 searches from one IP address is allowed during one day. If the number of searches in a day exceeds this, the use of the information service will be closed to the IP address concerned for one week. During this time other BIS pages can, however, be used normally, for example forms can be retrieved.

Mass-scale information service liable to charge and based on the information contents of the BIS is offered by Fonecta Oy, Intrum Justitia Oy, JM-Tieto Oy, Kauppalehti Oy, Lindorff Oy, Bisnode Finland Oy and Suomen Asiakastieto Oy.

Open data from the Finnish Business Information System (BIS):
The Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH) has launched an open data service enabling you to search, browse and download the following data in a machine-readable format for free:

Data from the Finnish Business Information System (BIS) maintained by the PRH and the Finnish Tax Administration.

The main purpose of the PRH open data is to enable you to retrieve and then modify the data in other applications or systems. Please note that if you are just an occasional user, it is easier to make searches using the BIS Search than using this service. Read more about the open data service interface.

LEI codes:
The Business Information System also provides details about international Legal Entity Identifiers (LEI codes) of companies and organisations that use derivative contracts in financial markets.
