There are a few steps you should take before you can start your studies at the university. To select the right kind of studies for you and to prepare your application, we recommend you read through the instructions on these pages carefully.

Eligibility:
Master’s Degree Studies:
The eligibility for studies in the Master’s programmes is evaluated on the basis of your previous education. According to the Universities Act (558/2009), section 37, eligible for studies leading only to a higher university degree shall be a person
** who has an applicable lower university degree;
** who has an applicable polytechnic degree; or
** who has an applicable education completed abroad which in the awarding country gives eligibility for corresponding higher education.

The study programmes have more detailed admissions criteria which they apply in the selection of new students. These criteria, for example, specify the required success in previous studies or level of language skills which is expected of applicants.

Doctoral Studies:
Eligible for studies leading to an academic doctorate degree shall be a person who has completed
** an applicable higher university degree;
** an applicable higher polytechnic degree; or
** an applicable education completed abroad which in the awarding country gives eligibility for corresponding higher education.

The university may require a student admitted to study for an academic postgraduate degree complete the necessary supplementary studies in order to acquire the knowledge and skills needed for the studies. (Universities Act 558/2009 Section 37.)

Exchange students:
The University of Vaasa does not have any special admission requirements for students who are coming to Vaasa through a bilateral university exchange programme (e.g. ERASMUS, NORDPLUS and bilateral agreements). Please check from the coordinator or international office of your home institution whether they have any special requirements concerning your stay at the University of Vaasa.

All exchange students to the University of Vaasa need to be nominated by their home institutions. The nomination of the exchange students should be done electronically using Moveon e-nomination.

Application Process:
You may apply for admission and study at our University with different statuses depending on your educational background and language skills. We accept international Master’s degree students to our Master’s degree programmes and doctoral programmes annually. The language of instruction in these programmes is English.

In addition, students may come to study at the university as exchange students through agreements with partner universities.

Application Periods:
Doctoral Programmes:
There are two application deadlines annually to the doctoral programmes: 30 April and 15 November. For more information about the application period and instructions, please visit the pages of the Graduate School of the University of Vaasa.

Exchange Studies
** The application deadline for the autumn semester / full academic year: 31 May annually
** The application deadline for the spring semester: 31 October annually
