The Prime Ministers of Australia and New Zealand have agreed that people travelling to both countries for the event will only need to apply for an Australian visa. People who are ordinarily visa required for New Zealand but who hold an eligible Australian visa will then be issued a visitor visa on arrival in New Zealand (provided that all INZ entry requirements are met).

This arrangement will be in place for people travelling between 26 January 2015 and 5 April 2015.

If you are planning to visit Australia and New Zealand at a later date, you will still need to apply for two visas, one for each country.

Further information on the arrangement and the Australian visas included in it is available on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection’s website.

If you are transiting through either Australia or New Zealand to reach your destination, you may need to apply for a transit visa. Refer to Australia’s Department of Immigration and Border Protection or Immigration New Zealand for information on transit visas.

For Australia:
All visitors to Australia must have a valid visa to travel to and enter Australia. The passport you hold will determine which visa you can apply for. Information on which Australian visa is suitable for you is available on the Department’s website.

For New Zealand:
If you are coming to visit New Zealand and your home country is on the visa free countries list, you can enter New Zealand without a visa, depending on how long you want to stay. If you are not from a visa free country you will need a visa. See information on how to apply for a visa.
