Under a new Trans-Tasman visa arrangement, eligible visitors will only need to apply for an Australian visa to travel to and between both countries for the period of 26 January and 5 April 2015. Subject to you meeting the New Zealand entry requirement, New Zealand will grant a three month visa on arrival to visitors holding an eligible Australian visa for the duration of the tournament.

Frequently asked questions :

(please use as a guide only – refer to the above website for up-to-date information):
1. What is the Trans-Tasman arrangement for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015? How do I know if I’m eligible?
It is a special arrangement put in place for people travelling to Australia and New Zealand for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 to apply for one visa for travel to and between both countries. If you are granted, or already holding, an eligible Australian temporary visa you will be able to travel to New Zealand without applying for a New Zealand visa.

You can confirm which visa you hold by using the Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) tool.

To see if the visa you hold, or are applying for, is included in this arrangement see: Eligible Visas for ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

2. How do I apply for a visa?:
You should apply for the most appropriate visa to your circumstances, see: Find a visa. The list of visas included in this arrangement is available at Eligible Visas for ICC Cricket World Cup 2015?. All people intending to travel to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 will still be required to satisfy the criteria for grant of the relevant visa including providing the necessary supporting documentation.

You can apply for a visa to travel to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 at any point but you can only travel under this arrangement between 26 January 2015 and 5 April 2015. You should apply for a visa well in advance of your intended travel.

3. When will the arrangement be open?:
The Trans-Tasman arrangement is open for travel from 26 January 2015 until 5 April 2015. With a valid Australian visa you can travel to and between both countries during this period. You must ensure you continue to meet the criteria for which your Australian visa was granted and you must meet Immigration New Zealand’s entry requirements?.

4. Under the Trans-Tasman arrangement for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, how will New Zealand know if I have an Australian visa?:
Both governments use a system called the Advance Passenger Processing (APP) system that allows airlines to determine if a passenger holds a valid visa for travel to the respective country. Through this system, Immigration New Zealand can determine if you hold an appropriate Australian visa at the time you board your flight to New Zealand. Subject to you meeting New Zealand’s entry requirements, a three month visitor visa stamp will be issued on your arrival.

5. I hold an Australian visa that is not included in the Trans-Tasman arrangement for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. What does that mean if I want to go to New Zealand?:
If you hold an Australian visa that is not included in this arrangement you will need to apply separately for a New Zealand visa. See: New Zealand’s entry requirements.

6. I’m already in Australia on a temporary visa. How do I know if I’m eligible to go to New Zealand under the Trans-Tasman arrangement for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015?:
If you already hold an Australian temporary visa that is included in the Trans-Tasman arrangement you are eligible to travel to, and enter New Zealand over the period from 26 January to 5 April 2015, without applying for a New Zealand visa. Your Australian visa must still be valid when you check in for your flight to New Zealand and you must meet New Zealand’s entry requirements, which includes the need to hold an outward ticket from New Zealand to a destination for which you have the right of entry.

To determine whether the temporary visa you hold is part of the Trans-Tasman arrangement, see: Eligible Visas for ICC Cricket World Cup 2015?.

7. Why aren’t all Australian temporary visas included in the Trans-Tasman arrangement for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015?:
The list of Eligible visas for ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is designed to target tourists overseas as well as within Australia and New Zealand. As such, visas including those in the Bridging Visa Programme are not included in the arrangement. People holding Australian visas that are not on the list and want to visit New Zealand for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 might apply for a New Zealand visa. See:?? Visiting New Zealand.

8. I have been granted an eligible Australian temporary visa for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 but don’t have any evidence that states I can travel to New Zealand? Will I receive a letter or a visa label?:
You will not need a visa label saying you are eligible to travel to New Zealand or Australia when your Australian visa is granted. All information about your Australian visa is held electronically and there is no need for you to obtain a visa label to travel to either country.

The Australian and New Zealand governments have agreed that people holding eligible Australian visas during the specified ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 period are eligible to travel to New Zealand. Through the Advance Passenger Processing (APP) system New Zealand will know you hold an Australian visa at the time you check into your flight. If you are granted entry to New Zealand, you will receive a three month New Zealand visitor visa stamp on arrival. This will outline the duration and conditions of your New Zealand visitor visa.

9. Under the Trans-Tasman arrangement for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, why aren’t all the conditions on my Australian visa recognised in New Zealand?:
New Zealand will issue a three month visitor visa to eligible Australian temporary visa holders who arrive in New Zealand during the specified ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 period. New Zealand will not grant an equivalent of the Australian temporary visa, including conditions, a person holds. While in New Zealand, Australian temporary visa holders are expected to abide by the conditions on the New Zealand visitor visa – this includes a prohibition on working.

10. Under the Trans-Tasman arrangement for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, is my New Zealand visa single entry only?:
Yes, however you can travel between Australia and New Zealand multiple times during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 period and New Zealand will issue you with a visitor visa on arrival each time, provided you meet Immigration New Zealand entry requirements and as long as your Australian visa is still valid.

11. I only want to go to New Zealand for ?the ICC Cricket World C?up 2015, not Australia. Do I apply for an Australian visa?:

Yes. The Trans-Tasman arrangement only applies to those holding Australian temporary visas. If you hold a New Zealand visa and want to travel to Australia for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, you will need to apply for an Australian visa as per normal arrangements?. See: Visit Australia?.

13. I am an Australian/New Zealand citizen and have a criminal history. Can I still travel to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015?:
People who enter Australia or New Zealand must meet each country’s character requirements. Where these requirements aren’t met, a visa might be refused. If you have criminal convictions it is recommended that you apply separately for a visa to each country as visa requirements related to character might differ. You should declare your convictions on each application. For more information, see Australia’s character requirements?? or see New Zealand’s answers on criminal history.
