Contributions cannot be transferred to another country.

The amount you receive will depend on the total contributions and number of years you have been part of the plan.

You may qualify whether you stop work or not.

Non-Contributory Pension:
You qualify for a Non-Contributory Pension if you:
** do not qualify for a Contributory Pension; and
** are 65 and living in Bermuda; and
** are Bermudian and have been ordinarily resident here for a period of not less than 10 years during the 20 years before you apply.

Contributory Old Age Gratuity:
** Is awarded if you paid into the plan but failed to meet the requirements for a Contributory Pension.

The gratuity is actually a refund of the total contributions paid into the plan by you and on your behalf.

Disability Benefits:

Contributory:
If you are over the age of 18 and under 65 and cannot work through physical or mental disability, you may be entitled to receive a disability benefit if:
** the incapacity lasts for a continuous period of more than 52 weeks; and
** you were gainfully employed immediately before the date of incapacity for work; and
** you paid not less than 150 contributions; and
** the yearly average of contributions paid or credited is over 25; and
** you can produce a certificate of inability to work signed by a local registered medical doctor.

The rate of benefit will depend on your contribution record.

Note: A person who is terminally ill may be exempt from the waiting period.

Non-Contributory:
If you have not paid into the scheme, you may still qualify for disability benefit if you:
** are a resident in Bermuda aged over 18 but under 65; and
** cannot work due to permanent physical or mental disability; and
** have been a resident here for a continuous period of not less than 10 years immediately preceding the date you apply; and
** produce a medical certificate of inability to work.

Benefits For Widows And Widowers:

Widows/Widowers Allowance:
To qualify:
** you must have been married for at least 3 years; and
** your deceased spouse must have satisfied the two conditions required for a Contributory Old Age Pension.

The allowance is paid for the first 26 weeks after the death of the spouse, but this may continue for a further period if:
** you are incapable of self support;
** or you have dependent child(ren) under school leaving age; or
** you are over the age of 50.

Widows/Widowers Gratuity:
