How To Check Your Contribution Record?

Do you need to check your contribution record? Request a copy of your contributions by calling 294-9242 Ext. 1117 or 1718 or email bburt AT gov.bm.

You will need your Social Insurance Number and Date of Birth.

Contributions:
Every employed or self-employed person who works more than four (4) hours a week is required to pay contributions into the CPF.

Exceptions:
** Students who work during periods of vacation or public holidays may be exempted from paying contributions upon application by their employer to the Director of Social Insurance
** Persons who earn less than $3,000 per year may apply for exemption.

** Widows/ers are not required to pay their contribution while in receipt of a benefit.
** Non-residents are not required to pay into the CPF if they work for a period of less than 26 consecutive weeks in Bermuda.
** Exceptions are not automatic; an application to the Director is a requirement.

Voluntary Contributions:
Persons ordinarily resident in Bermuda may apply to pay voluntary contributions into the CPF.

Can I find out the amount of contributions I currently have attributed to me?:
Yes, you can contact the Department of Social Insurance and request a record of contributions that have been attributed to your social insurance number. You will need to provide your social insurance number and birth day.

How long does it take for pension applications to be processed?:
It will take approximately 3 ? 5 business days to process the application. This can be longer if information is inaccurate, missing or needs to be verified. If 7 business days have passed you should contact the Department of Social Insurance Benefits department at (441) 294-9242 to find out the status of your application.

Do I get interest on my paid contributions?:
No, interest is not paid on contributions, however; you get the benefit of the contributions paid on your behalf by your employer.

As an ex pat am I able to recieve back what I contributed into social insurance:
If the individual is of 65 yrs or older, he or she is eligible to get back whatever contributions were paid into the government pension. They will need to fill out the application for a contributory old age pension/gratuity which can be found on our website.

How far back can I make an adjustment to my staff with respect to Social Insurance contributions?:
Adjustments to staff records should be sent to the Department of Social Insurance no later than one (1) month after the period of adjustment. Retroactive adjustments will be accepted with documentation supporting the adjustment i.e.: payroll records.

  1. I’m still employed although I’m 70 years old. I am receiving the government pension but was wondering if the amount I received is recalculated once I stop working as my employer is still contributing to my pension.
