Additional Simplified Procedure

The process of applying for contractor registration in Sri Lanka is handled by the Construction Industry Development Authority (CIDA). Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Determine your eligibility:
To be eligible for contractor registration, your contracting organization must be registered in Sri Lanka for the purpose of carrying out the business of Building/Civil Engineering, Electro Mechanical, Piling & Specialized construction either with the Registrar of the Companies under the Companies Act or with the Provincial Secretaries. Additionally, at least 51% of the ownership of the organization must be held by Sri Lankan nationals.

Choose your registration grade:
The CIDA has a grading system for contractors, with Grades C1 to C9 for Building/Civil Engineering contractors and Grades EM1 to EM6 for Electro Mechanical contractors. The grade you apply for will depend on the size and complexity of the projects you intend to undertake.

Gather the required document:
The specific documents required will vary depending on your chosen registration grade, but generally, you will need to provide:

** A completed application form (available for purchase at the CIDA Information Center)
** Certified copies of your business registration certificate
** Audited financial statements for the past three years
** Details of your technical and managerial staff
** A list of your plant and equipment
** Bank statements or other evidence of financial stability

Submit your application:
Once you have gathered all of the required documents, you can submit your application to the CIDA Information Center. The processing fee for the application will vary depending on the grade you are applying for.

Wait for a decision:
The CIDA will review your application and supporting documents. If everything is in order, you will be issued with a contractor registration certificate. The processing time for applications is typically 2 weeks for higher grades (C-6 and above) and 7 working days for lower grades.
