Application For Citizenship

Application For Citizenship Under Article 14 Of The Federal Constitution – Confirmation Of Citizenship (Born in Malaysia):
Reason For Application:
This is an application to confirm the status of a person born in Malaysia on or after Malaysia Day (16 September 1963) based on the status of the mother or the father.

Application Conditions:
1. The applicant and the person to be registered shall appear before the Registrar of Citizenship when submitting the application in accordance with Rule 28 of the Citizenship Rules 1964 (Amendment 1996).

2. The applicant shall be the:
2.1 parent;
2.2 guardian or next of kin;
2.3 the applicant

3. Form E must be completed and submitted together with copies of the necessary documents.

Application Procedure:
The applicant and the person to be registered are required to go to the counter at the Citizenship Division of the Putrajaya NRD headquarters or state NRD headquarters or NRD branch, bringing along originals and copies of required documents.

Required Documents (Originals And Copies):
1. Registrant’S Documents (Originals And Copies):
1.1 Birth Certificate or latest extract of Birth Certificate
1.2 Identity card (if any)
1.3 Passport or other travel document (if any)
1.4 Documentary evidence of schooling (if applicable)
1.5 Three (3) recent passport-sized photographs with a blue background

2. Parents’ Documents (Originals And Copies):
2.1 Birth Certificate or latest extract of Birth Certificate (if any)
2.2 Identity card (if any)
2.3 Entry permit or passport or other travel document (if any)
2.4 Citizenship Certificate (if any)
2.5 Marriage document (Muslim couples who married in a foreign country must submit confirmation by the Islamic Religious Department)

3. Sibling’S Documents (Originals And Copies):
3.1 Birth Certificate or latest extract of Birth Certificate
3.2 Identity card (if any)

Note:
All copies of supporting documents should be made on A4 paper.

Payment:
1. RM2.00 for application fee

2. RM10.00 to issue Status Verification Certificate (if approved)

Note:
Payment with postal order is accepted in multiples of RM10.00.

Notice:
1. All applications for citizenship matters require the use of original forms which may be obtained from the Putrajaya NRD headquarters or state NRD headquarters/branches. Application forms for registration of birth in a foreign country and renunciation of citizenship may be obtained from consulates abroad.

2. Where a child is born before the parents’ marriage is registered, the child’s status follows that of the mother as stated in Section 17, Part III of the Second Schedule of the Federal Constitution.

About Us :
The National Registration Department (NRD) is a Department under the purview of the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is responsible for the registration of important events of every individual such as birth, death, adoption, marriage and divorce.

In addition, NRD is also responsible for determining citizenship status and subsequently, the issue of identification document in the form of identity card to eligible individuals.
