What is Supplemental Medical Assistance (MEDplus)?

Supplemental Medical Assistance (MEDplus) is designed to provide supplemental medical relief for active OWWA and PhilHealth member-OFWs who are afflicted with dreaded diseases and were hospitalized, either at the job sites or while in the Philippines.

It is a financial assistance that aims to provide eligible availees with relief in the payment of their hospital/medical bills that is equivalent to the PhilHealth benefits under its case rate system but not to exceed Fifty Thousand Pesos (Php 50,000.00) per member.

If the family of OFW will claim the assistance because of:

  • OFW is abroad: Duly notarized Special Power of Attorney executed by the OFW
  • Deceased OFW: Death certificate of deceased OFW / marriage certificate or birth certificate of NOK-claimant issued by Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)
Legal Practitioner PSA or Local Civil Registrar LCR

How To Apply For Supplemental Medical Assistance?

To Apply For Supplemental Medical Assistance (MEDplus), Follow the below steps

** Visit the OWWA Regional Welfare Office that covers the permanent address of the OFW.
** Get priority number (ticket), please wait to be accommodated.
** Present I.D. at Counter of the Social Benefits Unit for verification of Membership Record.
** If the membership and MDR are valid, acquire MedPlus Application Form and other needed documents.
** Submit the accomplished application form and requirements; proceed to present claim stub and claim financial assistance through check or cash pay-out.
** After claiming the check, go to the Cashier – Releasing Window and present 2 valid IDs e.g. Passport, Postal, Voter’s, Company, Driver’s License, Senior Citizens, NBI Clearance (Original / Valid), PRC License

Q. How can I be a member of OWWA?
Since OWWA is a membership institution, there is a membership contribution worth USD $25.00. This entitles the members to various benefits from OWWA’s programs and services.

You can be a member by:
** Enrollment upon processing of contract at the POEA
** Voluntary registration of a would-be member at job sites overseas

What are the benefits of becoming an OWWA member?
OWWA members are entitled to an array of Social Benefits, Education & Training, Repatriation and Reintegration Services. They are also entitled to special programs.

When should I renew my OWWA membership?

The validity for each contribution is two (2) years, regardless of contract duration, change of employer, jobsite or recruitment agency. Thereafter, OWWA membership shall be renewed, provided there is proof of active employment.

You may renew your OWWA membership by:
** OWWA Mobile App – You may renew your membership via Mobile App by following our step-by-step guide
** Overseas Jobsites – OFWs may renew their membership on select sites and events on your jobsite/host country. You may check the OWWA Directory if available
** If OFW is in abroad, they may ask their NOK or relatives to renew at the nearest Regional Welfare Office in their area.
