Family Counselling & Guidance :

The Department of Family Counseling was established in 2001 as one of the social work organisations that serve Omani families in various forms.

Support is provided by the Ministry of Social Development to Omani Citizens through its directorates, departments, sections and offices spread throughout the Sultanate. The decision to establish the Department of Family Counseling and Guidance at the Ministry of Social Development was a tremendous step forward to realizing the principle that believes that directing and guiding an individual is the best method of caring and preserving the family. This, in turn, has a direct impact on the caring and preserving of society. The department also seeks to provide family counseling and guidance to individuals on social and psychological problems that negatively affect the course of family members and their lives. The counseling given to families is of the highest caliber both at the family and individual level. The Department continues in its efforts to counsel individuals enabling them to better cope with an array of personal and family issues.

This directive is supported with services available from :
** The Ministry of Social Development.
** Other government and non-government organisations.
** Hospitals.
** Schools and academic institutions.
** The Courts.
** The Police.
** NGO and social organisations.

The Department of Family Counseling directs individuals and families to the proper authorities so that their needs can be met. The department focuses primarily on the needs of senior citizens and children.

All nationals and expatriates who face social or psychological problems

Steps to follow to request the service :
A. Process Steps :
** Conduct an initial interview.
** Schedule guidance and counselling sessions as required.
** Conduct counseling and guidance sessions as scheduled.
** The counselor may request to conduct a “Case Conference” if needed.
** Assessments and follow ups.
** Completion and closure of the case file.
** Re-opening of the case file in case of setbacks.

** Referral Form – if appropriate.
