Business Name (BN) Registration is one of the principal front-line service of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

DTI BNRS Philippines Business Name Registration Renewal

The registration is good for five years from the date of its original registration, after which, the registration should be renewed. It aims to maintain a nationwide registry of business names mainly on Sole Proprietorship.

** Applicants who want to reserve a business name are advised to have several alternatives.
** It is fairly common that first choice cannot be registered because (a) it is already reserved, or (b) it is similar or confusingly similar to an existing business name.

** Your name should be descriptive as well as distinctive.

Q. What law governs the registration of business names?
A. The law governing the registration of business name is Act No. 3883, as amended by Act No. 41476 and R.A. No. 863, otherwise known as the Business Name Law.

Q. If I lost my original certificate of business name registration, what do I need to submit to facilitate renewal of my business name?
A. In the event that you lost your original certificate of business name registration, an affidavit of loss must be submitted instead.

Q. What will happen to my business name registration if I failed to renew after expiration date?
A. The business name registration can still be renewed within three months after the date of expiration. Renewal made after this period shall pay a surcharge.

Failure to renew within the six month period after the expiration date will result to automatic cancellation of business name from the database. An application to register the cancelled business name will be considered as original and will be approved if there is no such similar or confusingly similar name already registered.

Additional Simplified Procedure

The Business Name Registration System (BNRS) is a web-based system of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) that allows businesses to register their business names online.

To register a business name through BNRS, you must follow these steps:
1. Go to the BNRS website: https://bnrs.dti.gov.ph/
2. Click on the “Register a Business Name” button.
3. Create an account and log in.
4. Enter the required information about your business, such as the business name, the type of business, and the address of the business.
5. Pay the registration fee of PHP 500.
6. Submit your registration.

The DTI will review your application and approve it within 7 working days. If your application is approved, you will be issued a Certificate of Business Name Registration (CBNR).

Here are some of the things to keep in mind when registering a business name through BNRS:
** You must be a citizen of the Philippines or a permanent resident of the Philippines to register a business name.
** The business name must be unique and not already registered by another business.
** The business name must not be misleading or deceptive.
** The business name must not be offensive or vulgar.
