Boat driving licences are available as a digital licence. You can view, show, update, and renew your licence, on the Service NSW mobile app. To find out more about digital licences, see Get started with digital licences.

What you’ll Need

** your general boat driving licence number (as shown on your renewal)
** your renewal number (as shown on your renewal)
** your customer reference number (as shown on your renewal)
** concession card (if recording a concession for the first time)
** your payment.

How to Renew

** Select the ‘Renew online’ button.
** Select ‘Next’.
** Enter your licence and renewal number as shown on your renewal notice. (If you don’t have your renewal number, select ‘Don’t have?’ and enter your name, birth date and postcode.)

** Select ‘Next’.

** Read and confirm the declaration.

Things to keep in mind :
** Licence fees vary depending on the duration of the licence, and whether they are concessional licences.
** You must be under 16 years of age, or hold an eligible concession card at the time of payment, to receive a concession.
** If you hold an unrestricted NSW driver licence (all classes) and a NSW general boat driving licence, you may be eligible to combine these 2 licences on one card. Visit Roads and Maritime Services to make sure you have all the information.

Payment Methods

For online or phone transactions, you can pay with :
** credit or debit card (MasterCard, Visa, or American Express).
For transactions in person at a service centre, you can pay with :
** cash (in Australian currency)
** cheque (personal, bank or agency drawn)
** money order
** credit or debit card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express* or EFTPOS), or
** Android Pay app.

Please note that you may need to pay a merchant fee when paying by credit or debit card. * Unfortunately, some locations may not accept American Express.

Boat Registration

The following vessels must be registered in NSW when used on NSW navigable waters :
** Power-driven vessels with an engine of power rating 4.0 kilowatt (kW) or more
** Any power-driven or sailing vessel 5.5 metres or longer
** Every vessel subject to a mooring licence or marina berth
** PWC.

A person must be at least 16 years of age to register a vessel in NSW. The owner of a registered vessel must ensure the registration number is displayed at all times :
** On both sides of the hull in figures at least 150mm high
** At least 100mm high if the vessel is a PWC
** Across the transom or on both sides of the hull at least 100mm high if the vessel is a sailing vessel.

The registration number must be in a contrasting colour to the hull so that they are clearly distinguished eg avoid placing black numbers on a dark coloured hull.
