What is Navis??
** Navis is a secure web-based application designed to allow organizations and institutions to verify the identity of individuals registered with the Scheme.

** Many organizations have identification requirements that clients accessing certain facilities need to meet. Such verification involves cumbersome and time consuming procedures. Navis provides a solution to such challenges.

Biometric ID Card :
The New Biometric Card – Key facts :
** The New card is issued instantly at point of registration for new subscribers and those renewing their membership.
** The card contains basic biographic information as well as biometric data of the subscriber

** The new card is valid for 5 years subject to yearly membership renewals
** The security of the card is more of electronic than physical due to the biometric nature of the data which is embedded in the memory of the card

The New Biometric Card – Functionalities :
** An indicator of NHIS membership
** As a means of authentication at health facilities
** To be used by other stakeholders as means of identity check of card holders

The New Biometric Card – Future Usage :
** In future, the new card shall be used to store subscribers’ hospital attendance information and some relevant health information like patient allergies and blood group.

** 8 digit member number
** Date (month/day/year) – Date of issue of the card
** Card expiry date

** 8 digit card serial number
** Membership eligibility start date
** Membership eligibility end date
** Address ID: 13 character alphanumeric subscriber community code

Membership Renewal :
** Membership is valid for one year. Members will therefore be required to renew their membership every year.
** Members are advised to renew their membership one month before expiry.

** Members shall present their ID cards for renewal.
** Members who fail to renew their membership after one year will have their membership deactivated.

** Members who fail to renew their membership three months after expiry shall be treated as defaulters.
** Defaulters shall serve a three month waiting period before accessing healthcare under NHIS, except for pregnant women and under five year olds.

** The membership card of all categories of members expires after five years. Membership cards shall therefore be replaced once every five years.

At renewal, you will be required to fill a renewal form with the following information :
** Full name – if there is change of name there should be legal evidence of change of name, e.g. marriage certificate, affidavit
** Date of birth
** NHIS member unique number
** Contact number
** Residential address
** Biometric information

  1. Why I cant login to my NHIS for ID card verification?

  2. I did my health insurance 2013 August and it expired in 2017 July. Should I renew (or) register again?
