Frequently Asked Questions FAQ On RSTA Driving License

1. How do I process for Learners Driving License?
Procedure for obtaining a Learner License may require the applicant to :
a) be 17 years of age or more;

b) produce Citizenship Identity Card or other accepted identification documents for Bhutanese Nationals, and passport or other identification cards in case of foreigners;
c) bring along a latest passport-size photograph in national dress for Bhutanese;

d) produce a medical screening certificate duly signed by a Medical Personnel within the country;
e) FIll in the application form

f) Validity of a learner license : A learner license is a valid for one year after the date of issue or when a driver license which authorizes the person to drive such a motor vehicle is issued to the person whichever occurs first.

2. How do I process for Driving License?
A person applying for an Ordinary Driving License must :
** come in person
** Make an appointment for a test

** be 18 years of age or more at the time of applying for a license
** have held a Learner’s license for at least six months
** produce a Certificate to have attended an refresher/Introductory course

** have undergone both theoretical and practical tests and achieved the minimum pass score set in the ‘Evaluation Form for Driving Test’
** produce a copy of the latest passport-size photograph in national dress for Bhutanese

** produce Citizenship Identity card or other accepted identification documents for Bhutan nationals, and passport or other identification cards in case of foreigners and

** pay fee as prescribed in Schedule 1.

Application requirements for an ordinary driving license for those who have graduated out of a driving school or institute
“Driving Schools and Institutes” shall include Government and Corporate Training Institutes and other privately Licensed Driving Schools within the country.

An applicant for ordinary driving license who has graduated from a driving school must :
** come in person for a practical driving test
** be 18 years of age or more at the time of applying for license

** hold a learner’s license for at least three months
** produce a Certificate to have attended the Institute or School

** have undergone both theoretical and practical tests and achieved the minimum pass score set in the ‘Evaluation Form for driving test’
** produce a copy of the latest passport size photograph

** produce Citizenship Identity Card or other accepted identification documents for Bhutanese Nationals, and passport or other identification cards in case of foreigners and
** pay fees as prescribed in Schedule 1.

3. How do I get Additional Drive Types of a driving License?
(Variation/endorsement of driving license)
The Authority may require an applicant for renewal or variation as applicable to :
1) fill in an application form;

2) provide any additional information (including any evidence that the Authority may reasonably require as to those particulars);
3) undergo any test which the Authority may require for license variation;
4) provide one recent passport size photograph; and

5) pay fee as per Schedule1.
6) Exemption from requirement for a Bhutan driving license. The Authority may exempt a person from obtaining a driving license for a period of three months if the person

1) Duly filled in registration application form
2) Original Invoice
3) ID Card copy (the applicant should be 18 years and above)

5) Original customs clearance (if purchased from authorized dealer outside Bhutan )
6) Import license /quota (in case of purchase from third country )

Here are the steps on how to book a RSTA driving test in Bhutan:
1) Go to the RSTA website: https://eralis.rsta.gov.bt/
2) Click on the “Driving Test” tab.
3) Click on the “Book Test” button.
4) Enter your citizenship ID number.
5) Enter your learner’s license number or driving license number.
6) Select the type of test you want to book.
7) Select the date and time of your test.
8) Pay the test booking fee.
9) Click on the “Submit” button.

You will receive an email confirmation of your test booking.
