Workfare Income Supplement Scheme:

WIS encourages eligible workers to continue working and build up their CPF savings for their retirement, housing and healthcare needs, by supplementing their income and retirement savings through cash payments and CPF contributions.

Employee:
From 2017, you will qualify for WIS if you:
** are a Singapore Citizen;
** are 35 years old or above on 31 December of the work year (all persons with disabilities would qualify for WIS);

** work at least one month (previously two months in a three-month period);
** earn an average gross monthly income1 of not more than $2,000 for the month worked (previously $1,900);

** earn an average gross monthly income1 of not more than $2,000 in the past 12 months;
** live in a property with annual value2 of not more than $13,000 assessed as at 31 December of the preceding year; and
** do not own two or more properties.

If you are married:
** you and your spouse together must not own two or more properties; and
** the assessable income of your spouse must not exceed $70,000.

You will receive:
** 40% of your WIS payment in cash, and 60% in CPF contributions. We will pay the cash portion into your bank account, or send you a cheque if you do not have a bank account.

What must I do?:
** If your employer makes CPF contributions for you, we will automatically assess your eligibility for WIS. You do not need to do anything.

** Under the CPF Act, employers must contribute CPF if their employees earn more than $50 a month, regardless of whether the employee is employed on a permanent, part-time, contract or casual basis.

** If your employer is not contributing CPF on your behalf, please inform us immediately. You can visit any CPF Service Centre or call 1800-221-9922.
** All calls are confidential.

If you worked as both an employee and a self-employed person:
** we will assess your eligibility for WIS based on your employment details as both an employee and self-employed person.
** If you meet the conditions for receiving WIS based on both your employment and self-employment, you will receive your WIS based on the employee payment schedule.

From 2017, you will qualify for WIS if you :

** have declared your net trade income and made Medisave contributions;

** live in a property with annual value2 of not more than $13,000 assessed as at 31 December of the preceding year; and
** do not own two or more properties.

** Persons with disabilities below 35 will get up to $933 (in 2016) or $1,000 (in 2017).

You will receive :
** 10% of your WIS payment in cash, and 90% in your Medisave Account.
** We will pay the cash portion into your bank account, or send you a cheque if you do not have a bank account.

What must I do?
** For working in any particular year, we will pay WIS to you in the following year.
** We will make the annual WIS payout to you once you have declared your income and made the corresponding Medisave contributions.

** For example, to receive WIS by 30 April (for work done in the previous year), you will need to do the following by 31 March of each year.
** Declare your income to IRAS if you have received the income tax return, or declare your income to us at any Singapore Post branch if you have not received the income tax return.
** Make Medisave contributions.

  1. I applied for contributions refund on the 24th of January 2017. The Reference # is B604908 -J33912 but the
    letter before should be G instead of B.
