Foreign Passport Application Procedure

How do I apply for a passport?:
If you are a citizen of Barbados, you may apply for a passport from the Immigration Department in Barbados, or at one of Barbados’ thirteen diplomatic and consular missions abroad.

Please note that while the rules for application for a Barbados passport are standard, the procedures may vary from mission to mission. You should therefore check with the relevant diplomatic mission or consulate beforehand.

If you are more than 16 years of age, you should complete an ‘Application for a Barbados Passport’ Form A in your own hand-writing. Use Block Letters for all names except your signature.

Applications for children under the age of 16 should be made on Form B.

The application form should be accompanied by two (2) photographs. The photographs should not be more than five (5) centimetres by five (5) centimetres and should be taken by a professional photographer.

Please ensure that you sign your name in the boxes provided at the bottom of page two of the application form as well as the Declaration at Section 11, page four.

If you are applying in Barbados for a new adult passport, the fee is Bds$150.00 while the fee for the issue of a new passport for persons under sixteen years is Bds$100.00. Passports are issued for a period of ten (10) years and are not renewed. The fees for passports issued by our diplomatic missions overseas vary from mission to mission. You should therefore check with the respective mission regarding the fee schedule. First-time applicants and applicants holding a Barbados passport issued before 30 November 1966, should submit their original birth certificate along with their application.

First time applicants who were not born in Barbados, but are citizens of Barbados, must provide proof of their citizenship.

If you do not have an original birth certificate, you may apply for one at the Registration Office, Supreme Court Complex, Whitepark Road,St. Michael, Barbados, by giving details of your name, date of birth, and your parents’ names. The application fee is Bds$5.00.

What is the fee for a passport?:
The fee for a new adult passport (issued in Barbados) is Bds$150.00 while the fee for a passport issued to persons under sixteen years is $100.00. How long does it take to process a passport?:
The processing period varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. However, the average processing time is seven(7) working days. The processing period for the Immigration Department in Barbados is 14 days.

How long is a Barbados passport valid for?:
At the end of the ten-year period, you are eligible to apply for a new passport. Your ‘old’ one is then ‘cancelled’ and returned to you.

What should I do if my passport is lost or stolen?:
If you believe that your passport has been stolen, you are required to report the matter to the nearest Police Station. You will also be required to complete Section 8 on page three (3), indicating the place and time that the report was made to the Police.
