Trade Mark Search By Number:
This service allows you to search for a National UK trade mark, a Community trade mark, an International Registration designating the EU and an International Registration designating the UK.

Trade Mark Search By Owner:
This service allows you to find UK national trade marks owned by a person or company. This service does not extend to trade marks filed through the European or International trade mark protection routes.

Trade mark search by word or image:
If you have entered more than one word as your search term, you can extend your search to look for marks with the individual words by changing the setting to ‘ANY of these words’.

A trade mark must contain a list of the goods and/or services it is going to be used on. This is done using a classification system that is made up of 45 categories, called classes. ‘Goods’ can be found in classes 1 to 35 and ‘Services’ in 36 to 45.

How to classify trade marks:
When applying for a trade mark you must specify a class, this guidance lists the types of goods and services which belong to each class.

Detail:
The trade mark classification system is divided between goods, in classes 1 – 34 and services, in classes 35 – 45.

Please note that these lists (class headings) do not include all goods or services in a particular class.

If you do not know which class(es) your goods or services are in, please use the classification search tool TMclass, this will help you to search for and classify goods and services needed to apply for trademark protection. (A TMclass tutorial is available.
