National ID Identity Card :

It is mandatory for all residents of Seychelles to hold a valid National identity card. It serves as a proof of identity and use when conducting any official transaction.

Where can I get it?:
The ID Office in the Oceangate House, ground floor.

What document do I need when applying for one?:
For Citizen of Seychelles:
** Birth certificate
** Certificate of registration or Naturalization where applicable

For Foreign workers:
** Passport
** Relevant permit i.e. GOP / Dependent permit / Residence permit / Student’s permit or ITZ permit.

How much it cost?:
Replacement of National Identity Card is Sr. 150/- for Seychellois and Sr. 300/- for expatriates.

Who can apply for an identity card?:
Citizens of Seychelles who are ordinarily resident in Seychelles for a continous period exceeding three months, foreign workers and their dependents (as stated on their permit) are eligible to apply for National Identity Card. The cost for the ID card is Sr. 300/-

The validity of the ID card is normally for the duration of the person’s relevant permit.

What to do if I lose my identity card?:
In case you lose your identity card, you will need to present a police report when applying for its replacement.

What can I do if my identity card is damaged?:
In the case of disfigured ID card, the application must be accompanied by the old ID card.

What happens if I change my name?:
If you have changed your name, you must notify the Chief Officer of the Civil Status within 60 days of the change. The application for a new card must be accompanied by the old card and a copy of the authorization of change of name issued by the Civil Status office.

A new ID card in this case is Sr. 150/-.

When should I return my identity card?:
The identity card must be returned to the social security or the ID card office in the case of:
** A death; or
** A foreigner leaving the country.

Acquisition of Seychelles Citizenship :
** The page explains the process of how to acquire a Seychelles citizenship, registration in special circumstances, naturalisation, parental descent and the official citizenship examination.

Documents to be submitted :
• Your birth certificate;
• Birth certificates of your parent/grandparent who was born in Seychelles;
• Copy of passport’s bio-data page;
• One passport size photograph;
• Police character certificate which should not be more than six months old.**

Notes And Instructions :
You did not automatically become a citizen of Seychelles and – (See below *)
i) any of your parent or grandparent was born in Seychelles;

ii) you have not been sentenced to a term of imprisonment exceeding1 year or more for an offence punishable under any laws of Seychelles;
iii) you have obtain at least 80% marks in 1 of the 3 national languages in the citizenship qualifying examination;
