Driver License/ Identification Card Renewal

In order to process your renewal, you must:
** Be the person named on the renewal notice
** Not have a change of address

** Note: If you wish to apply for a Reduced Fee Identification Card, you must bring the original, completed Verification for Reduced Fee Identification Card (DL 937) to the DMV along with your payment and your Renewal Notice. Verification for Reduced Fee Identification Card (DL 937) must be presented to DMV within 60 days of its completion by the governmental or non-profit entity.

If you have recently submitted or intend to submit within the next 7-10 days an online change of address, we recommend that you mail in your renewal notice and change your address on the back of the form. This will avoid delays in receiving your Driver License or Identification Card.

U.S. CITIZENS ONLY. The law requires you to update your voter registration when you move to a new permanent residence.

You may authorize DMV to notify the Secretary of State of a voter change of address if you are already registered to vote. If you move to another county or are not registered to vote, you must complete a voter registration application. The voter registration application can be completed online or downloaded by visiting: RegisterToVote.ca.gov

Payment Options:
** You will need one of your checks (not a deposit slip) to obtain the bank routing number and account number.
** When entering your account number, do not include the check number.
** E-check customers cannot purchase more than one item per transaction.
** Business checks are not acceptable for e-checking.

Visa, master card, american express, and discover credit cards

Or ATM/debit card from any of the following participating networks:
Star and other debit card networks

No additional fee is charged for renewing your Driver License or Identification Card online.

If you want to apply for a different type of ID card than the type you currently have, you must visit a DMV field office.

** Read and acknowledge the medical information, disclosures, and certifications.
** Select payment option and enter your payment information (if applicable).
** Read and acknowledge e-Checking agreement (if applicable).

1A. The Driver License Renewal-by-Internet allows applicants who are eligible to renew their Driver License by mail, and meet certain other criteria, the ability to renew over the Internet.

2Q. How do I become eligible to renew by Internet?
2A. You have to be eligible for renewal by mail and :
** Have access to the Internet
** Register as a certified user with the DMV
** Not have a change of address or change of personal description
** Have a verified Social Security Number (SSN) on DMV record (since October 2000, DMV verifies SSNs with the Social Security Administration)
** Have a valid credit card or a checking account.

5Q. Can I renew my driver license by Internet if I have a change of address at the same time?
5A. No. A change of address is not accepted as part of the driver license renewal by internet process. This is for your security and protection. If you have a change of address, enter your current address on your renewal notice and renew your driver license by mail.

6Q. What information can I change when renewing by Internet?
6A. For security purposes, no changes can be made (to your address, date of birth, physical description or class of license).

7Q. If I prefer to renew by mail, is that option still available?
7A. Yes, renewal by mail is still available.

8Q. My driver license expires soon. Can I still renew by Internet if I’m eligible?
8A. Yes. We will issue your license within 60 days of receipt.

9Q. Can I replace a lost or stolen license by Internet?
9A. Not at this time.
