How to apply for admission:
Find out what you need before applying for admission, and how to submit your application successfully.

Before you begin:
To complete your online application successfully, you may need the following information.
** Your Inland Revenue Department (IRD) number
** Your National Student Number (NSN)
** Your previous academic history
** The programme(s) for which you intend to apply

Your Inland Revenue Department (IRD) number:
If you’re applying for a student loan, provide us with your IRD number to allow Inland Revenue to process your student loan interest write-off.

Your National Student Number (NSN):
If you are applying to the University directly from a New Zealand secondary school based on NCEA results, you must provide your National Student Number. If you are applying based on other qualifications, you should add your NSN if known.

Your previous academic history:
If you are new to the University you will need to tell us about your previous secondary, foundation and tertiary academic study. Please have your academic records nearby so you can refer to them.

** If you are a current or former student of the University of Auckland, details of that study will not be displayed during the Application for Admission process — but they are kept on record, so you don’t need to enter these or supply documentation.

** If you have studied at another institute, please make sure your academic history includes any qualifications you have completed or are in the process of completing.

Note: It is essential that all secondary school study you have attempted, completed or are completing is entered in your Application for Admission. Failure to do so can result in a delay in the processing of your application.

Remember to include:
** Your NSN if you have studied NCEA.
** Your Candidate Code and Centre Code if you have studied CIE.
** Your Personal Code if you have studied IB.

The programme(s) for which you intend to apply:
You will need to know the programmes and plans you wish to apply for.

Postgraduate course selection:
To apply for certain postgraduate programmes, you may need to tell us the courses you intend to study. For some programmes you may also need to have considered a research project and/or a supervisor for your study. We encourage you to talk to the relevant department about your course selection before completing an online application. See Faculty student centres.

Mandatory information:
There are certain questions that you are required to complete. You can move on and return to a page at any time but the application will not be complete until all the required questions have been answered. These are marked with a red asterisk, and will show as incomplete in the Application Review page.

Terminology:
The University may use words and terminology that are unfamiliar to you, such as ‘programme’ and ‘plan’. If you see words that are underlined with a dotted line, you can click them to see a definition.
