Immigration Application for Resident Status

Non Nationals of Trinidad and Tobago who are described in Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act may apply to the Minister of National Security for the grant of Resident Status.

An application form is obtained from the Ministry of National Security, no fee attached. **

An application for the grant of resident status is submitted to the Ministry of National Security on the prescribed form 6, two (2) Original forms, if submitted locally, or three (3) Original forms, if submitted from abroad, and is subject to the approval of the Minister (link to MNS website).

Requirements:
** Birth Certificate
** Marriage and/or Divorce Certificates (where applicable)
** Sworn Declarations/Affidavits (where applicable)
** Police Certificate Of Character from country of residence and /or home country
** Medical Forms 40 and 40A and X-ray report
** Certificates or Diplomas of Educational Qualifications
** Job Letters
** Bank Statements
** Proof of Legal Entry to Trinidad and Tobago
** Photos

Fees:
Application fee: Nil
Certificate fee: Non CARICOM Citizens – $1,000.00 TT
CARICOM Citizens – $400.00 TT
Payable at the Ministry of National Security on approval of the application

Any such person to whom Section 6(1) does not apply may submit an application made by written request to the Minister of National Security for the grant of Resident Status.

** Police Certificate Of Character from country of residence and /or home country
** Medical Forms 40 and 40A and X-ray report

** Letters from Schools attended
** Job Letters
** Bank Statements
** Proof of Legal Entry to Trinidad and Tobago
** Photos
** Any other documents as may be required

Fees:
Application fee: Nil
Certificate fee: Non CARICOM Citizens – $ 1,000.00 TT
CARICOM Citizens – $ 400.00 TT
Payable at the Ministry of National Security on approval of the application

A person to whom resident status has been granted can lose such status by voluntarily residing outside Trinidad and Tobago for a continuous period of more than one (1) year

Extension of Stay :
** A permitted entrant to Trinidad and Tobago who requires an Extension of Stay to remain in the country shall appear before the Immigration Authorities in Trinidad and Tobago.
** An application for an Extension of Stay is made to the Chief Immigration Officer on the prescribed form and is subject to his approval.

Requirements :
** Completed Application Form
** Valid Reason/Purpose for Extension of Stay
** Valid Return Ticket or Security Deposit
** Proof of Sufficient funds for upkeep during stay
** Proof of Legitimate Lodging
** Proof of Marriage (for married persons)
** Proof of parentage (for minors)
** Proof of Work/Student/Missionary Permit (where applicable)

** A permitted entrant, who is not the holder of a Work Permit, Student Permit, Missionary Permit or is awaiting Permanent Residence status may be granted an Extension of Stay to a maximum of six (6) months from the date of entry into Trinidad and Tobago, subject to the approval of the Chief Immigration Officer

** A permitted entrant, who is the holder of a Work Permit, Student Permit, Missionary Permit or is awaiting Permanent Residence status may be granted an Extension of Stay beyond six (6) months.

Non CARICOM Nationals – $100.00 TT

  1. If You have applied for residency status, are you allowed to travel outside of country? Do I apply for extension first, when I comeback?
