How To Apply For Residence in Croatia?
Pursuant to the Residence Act (OG 144/12, 158/13, 114/22), all persons who have been living abroad for more than one year are required to register temporary departure from the Republic of Croatia, i.e. deregister their permanent residence in the Republic of Croatia. Those who plan to stay abroad temporarily are required to register their temporary departure from the Republic of Croatia.

In that case, the following should be enclosed with the application:
** valid identity card
** proof of residence abroad (certificate of address in the country of residence)
** proof of reason for residing abroad (e.g. certificate of education, employment contract, etc.).
The application can be submitted to the competent police administration or police station in the place of permanent residence in the Republic of Croatia or to the competent embassy or consulate of the Republic of Croatia abroad.
Persons permanently emigrating from the Republic of Croatia are required to submit an application to deregister their permanent residence, accompanied by the following:
** Identity Card and
** Certificate of address in the country of residence in which the person has settled.
The application is submitted in person, and in case of minors, by their parents or legal representatives. A consular fee is charged in accordance with the Administrative Fees Act – payment in cash is not accepted. Information on the permanent residence of Croatian citizens is available on the website of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia.

Certificate of No Impediment (CNI)
Croatian citizens entering into marriage before the competent authorities of a foreign country are required to obtain a Certificate of No Impediment from the competent civil registry office in the Republic of Croatia.
The Certificate of No Impediment is a document proving that the individual is not married and that there are no impediments to the intended marriage. The competent authority for issuing the certificate is the civil registry office responsible for the place where the Croatian citizens’ birth is entered in the Croatian Register of Births.
When submitting an application to the competent diplomatic mission or consular post of the Republic of Croatia, it is necessary to present an identity card or passport for inspection and to attach the following to the application:
** a copy of the identity card or passport (of the applicant, a Croatian citizen) and,
** a copy of the passport of the person with whom the applicant (the Croatian citizen) intends to enter into marriage.
Note:
The application may be submitted in person or in writing to the competent civil registry office in the Republic of Croatia, as well as through an authorised representative (the applicant’s signature on the power of attorney may be certified at a diplomatic mission or consular post of the Republic of Croatia).
