How To Apply For Certificate of Vehicle Licence & Roadworthiness?

** A Certificate of Vehicle Licence and Roadworthiness, or a log book as it is commonly referred to, is a crucial document.

** Not only does it state the registered owner of a particular vehicle, it also records the unique identification characteristics of the vehicle.
** Referring to this document will allow you to determine when your vehicle is due for its next inspection, the expiration of the vehicle licence, the category your vehicle is licensed, the colour, whether there is a bank lien registered against a vehicle and much more.
** Renewing the licence of your vehicle? If so, you can use the Certificate of Vehicle Licence and Roadworthiness. On page one, below the licence and registration details, you will find the section ‘Renewal Application’. Complete as indicated.
** Are you changing your vehicle’s colour or engine size? Refer to section C (notification of changes to register).
** Transferring your vehicle? Refer to section C of your Certificate of Vehicle Licence and Roadworthiness; provided in this section is an area specifically for this. Here, the current owner of the vehicle can place their signature, along with the signature of the new owner. See Transfer of Ownership/Title for more information.
** Need to replace a Certificate of Vehicle Licence and Roadworthiness that has been destroyed or lost? Simply visit any of our offices to request a duplicate. Replacing this essential document will incur a fee of CI$30.00.

DVDL Vehicle Inspection

** A typical vehicle inspection comprises a safety inspection covering such items as tyres, brakes, horn, turn signals etc… All of our Vehicle Inspectors are trained in all aspects of the inspection process.
** Inspections can be carried out at the Crewe Road Office, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday from 8am to 4pm and Breakers Offices Tuesday to Friday 10am to 3pm, 4pm to 6pm. and Saturday 9am to 3pm.
** Unnecessary delays in licensing your vehicle can be avoided by following these simple but important suggestions:
** All lights must be clean and in working order; this includes turn signals, licence plate lights, parking and headlights (which must be properly aimed to the left).
** Brakes must be in good working order, able to halt a vehicle within the required distance of 50 feet when traveling at 25 miles per hour.
** Glass in windows must be free of holes, breaks or cracks and not be tinted darker than what is allowed by regulations 23, (3) of the Traffic Regulations (2021 Revision).
** The front side windows shall, if tinted, allow a minimum of 35 per cent of light transmission whether the glass is tinted by the manufacturer or by any other person.
** The rear windscreen and rear side windows may allow less than the 35 per cent of light transmission only if fitted by the manufacturer, as standard equipment, and all other tint applied to the rear windscreen and rear side windows shall allow a minimum of 15 per cent light transmission (Tint Diagram).
** Windscreen shall be of clear glass (a strip of tinted glass, of any degree of light transmission, is allowed; however this may not exceed six inches in width measured from the top of the windscreen.
** Mirrors must be unbroken and display a clear view to rear of the vehicle
** Windshield wipers must be fully operative (the rubber blades must be in good condition)
** Tyres must be free of bulges, no fabric showing, no bald areas and no cuts. Tread depth must be at least 1 millimeter around the circumference of the tyre and across 75% of its breadth. (Also applies to the spare tyre)
** Horn must be in operating condition
** Muffler must effectively reduce sound of engine exhaust. (No leaks in exhaust system)
** There must be no gasoline or fluid leaks.
** Part of the inspection process may necessitate one of our inspectors to operating your vehicle to perform a road test.
** Although controlled, this test, will give our Vehicle Inspector an idea how your vehicle will perform under various braking and maneuvering situations.
