National Registration:

** The issuance of national identity documents is a statutory requirement in terms of the National Registration Act Chapter 10:17 which specifies that every citizen, aliens and refugees (acquired citizen) should register a national identity card. This is in line with statutory instrument No. 140 of 2009.

1. Initial registration for citizen :
** Applicant should be 16 years of age or above.

Requirements :
** Long Zimbabwe birth certificate for citizens.
** Short birth certificate for adopted children.
** Valid passport if acquired.
** Father’s or guardian’s identity card.

Statutory fees :
** 16 -18 years – Free
** Above 18 years – US$2.00

Fingerprint clearance 22 years and above :
** normal – US$1.00
** urgent – US$5.00

2. Initial registration for non-citizen :
** Applicant should be 16 years of age.

Requirements :
** Valid passport
** Valid student, work or residence permit which is six months old

Statutory fees :
** 16-18 years – Free
** Above 18 years – US$2.00

3. Change of information :
(i) As per marriage certificate :
Requirements :
** Marriage certificate
** Original Zimbabwe long/short birth certificate
** Valid passport where applicable

Statutory fees :
** With I .D – Free
** Without I .D – US$10.00

(ii) As per divorce order :
Requirements :
** Divorce certificate
** Original Zimbabwe long/short birth certificate
** Valid passport where applicable

Statutory fees :
** With I.D – US$25.00
** Without I.D – US$35.00

(iii) As per Notarial Deed :
Requirements :
** Notarial deed
** Original Zimbabwe long/short birth certificate
** Valid passport if acquired

Statutory fees :
** With I.D – US$100.00
** Without I.D – US$110.00

(iv) As per citizenship certificate :
Requirements :
** Citizenship certificate
** Original Zimbabwe long/short birth certificate
** Valid passport if acquired

Statutory fees :
** With ID – US$40.00
** Without ID – US$50.00

(v) Citizenship by registration :
Requirements :
** Citizenship certificate
** Foreign valid passport
** ID (Alien)

Statutory fees :
** With I.D – US$40.00
** Without I.D – US$50.00

(vi) As per affidavit (This applies to women without marriage certificate and are customarily married) :
Requirements :
** Long/short Zimbabwe original birth certificate
** ID in married surname
** Affidavit
** Valid passport where applicable

Statutory fees :
** With I.D – US$25.00
** Without I.D – US$35.00

4. Correction of information on green copy :
Requirements :
** Long/short Zimbabwe original birth certificate
** Old identity card
** Valid passport where applicable
** Marriage certificate where applicable

** With green copy ID – US$10.00
** Lost green copy ID – US$12.00
** With metal/polythene sythentic ID – US$25.00
** With lost metal/polythene synthetic ID – US$35.00

5. Replacement of an identity card :
Requirements :
** Long birth certificate
** Copy of lost I.D if available
** Valid passport where applicable

Statutory fees :
** Green copy ID – US$2.00
** Polythene synthetic ID – US$10.00
** External replacements – US$15.00

Processing time :
** Polythene/Synthetic ID – One day
** Green copy ID – 3 days

Zimbabwe Citizenship :
Zimbabwe Citizenship Act came into force on 31st December 1984 and was amended on 6th July, 2001 and 2003 (Citizenship of Zimbabwe Amendment Act No. 12 of 2003). This information refers to the position after 31st December 1984. Furthermore, this information covers provisions of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No.20) Act 2013.

Prohibition of dual citizenship :
An adult citizen of Zimbabwe is prohibited to be a citizen of a foreign country in terms of the provisions of the constitution of Zimbabwe except on the condition that the person is a citizen of Zimbabwe by birth.
