How To Get Public Meetings & Processions Permit in Botswana?

The Permit allows the applicant to hold public meeting(s) or procession(s) within a controlled area for a specific period of time in accordance with the Public Order Act Cap. 22:02

Steps:
** Applicant must write a letter of request to the Officer Commanding of the area clearly outlining the following:
** Location of the requested area
** Date and time of the event
** Purpose/ nature of the event

Note:
** Any person who wishes to convene a public meeting or to form a public procession within a controlled area shall seek permission from the police authority in writing.Botswana Police Service contact details
** The request letter with the attachments should be hand-delivered to the police station within the location where the public meet or procession will be held within a reasonable timeframe for processing and consideration. I.e. at least 2 weeks before the purposed meeting.
** The receiving police officer will verify if all the necessary documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the request.
** Applicants will be issued with an acknowledgment letter as proof of submission of the request.
** Upon receipt of the request, the commanding/regulating officer will only consider the issue of the permit unless he/she is satisfied that the public meeting or public procession is not likely to cause or lead to a breach of the peace and the controlled area in question is available for hire.
** The feedback is communicated to applicants in writing.
** If approved; the permit will be drawn up, signed, and stamped by the regulating officer and it shall specify the name of the person to whom it is issued and such conditions attaching to the holding of such public meeting or public procession as the regulating officer may deem necessary to impose for the preservation of public peace and order.

The conditions which may be imposed in issuing a permit may relate to all or any of the following matters;
** the date upon which and the place and time at which the public meeting or public procession is authorized to take place
** the maximum duration of the public meeting or public procession
** the granting of adequate facilities for the recording of the proceedings of such public meeting in such manner and by such person or class of persons as the regulating officer may specify: Provided that such conditions may not require the convener of a public meeting to provide equipment; or
