Please Note:
You must supply an email address in order to confirm that the registration was successful, and to inform you of your new CAPS Trader Identification number.

Applications without a valid email address will be rejected. You may also apply using a paper form available from any HM Customs Office.

Customs Automated Processing System (CAPS):
The CAPS system has been designed to automate the receiving and processing of customs declarations. This will include all imports, exports, and bonded goods processes. Declarations can be received in both paper form (using the new Bermuda Customs Declaration) or electronically direct into the CAPS system. In addition, kiosks will be introduced in Customs Offices allowing importers to enter their declarations into CAPS.

Trader Registration:
In order to simplify the declaration process, and more easily keep track of importers declarations, we will be asking each importer to register with Customs so that their details can be held electronically. We will then assign a unique “Trader ID Number” which can be used on the BCD in all correspondence with Customs. You can register for your CAPS Trader ID Number on-line by selecting this link.

Electronic Submission of BCD:
Traders wishing to use the electronic BCD submission feature will need to demonstrate the integrity of their own internal systems and processes to HM Customs. For each BCD, a file must be created by the trader and transferred using FTP (File Transfer Protocol) software to a local Internet Service Provider. The CAPS system will then collect the files, process them, and send back a confirmation detailing any errors. This transmission method is both fast and secure, and does not require expensive hardware and software, or incur any transaction charges.

Traders and system suppliers wishing to gain a greater understanding of the technical requirements of the electronic BCD submission feature of CAPS should contact the CAPS office or download Public Notice number 12.

Claim a refund from Customs :
** If you have been informed you can claim a refund, you have two options to take advantage of the refund due to you.

The following options are available :
Account Credit :
** If you are a frequent importer of dutiable goods into Bermuda, then you may elect to use the Account Credit option resulting from the review decision to pay duty on future imports rather than have the funds returned to you.
** An Account Credit may be utilized immediately, whereas a return of funds may take up to one month to be processed and received by you. It is not permissible to use the credit to pay duty arising from importations of goods which have been declared on a Customs Traveller Declaration
** Direct, electronic, bank-to-bank transfer of funds: If you are a casual importer or seldom import dutiable goods into Bermuda, then you may choose to have the funds returned directly to your bank account.
** To exercise either of these options, please advise the Financial Controller of the Customs Department of your request in writing. If you use more than one account, please specify to which account the credit should be applied.

Include the following documentation / information with your advice :
** a completed new or changed address book form;

a sanitized document issued by your bank (for example, a bank statement with account balances and transactional details excluded or obscured) which displays:
** the name of the bank;
** the account number;
** the account name;
** the denominating currency of the bank account;
** whether the account is a savings or a chequing account.
** Please allow up to one calendar month after your application to receive the funds into your bank account.
