RSTA Vehicle Registration

Only new vehicles can be registered.Second Hand/used vehicles registered in other country cannot be registered in Bhutan. All new vehicles must be brought for physical inspection by the Motor Vehicle Inspector of RSTA during the time of registration.

Requirements

** Duly filled in registration application form
** Original Invoice
** ID Card copy (the applicant should be 18 years and above)

** One passport size photograph (recent)
** Original customs clearance (if purchased from authorized dealer outside Bhutan )
** Import license /quota (in case of purchase from third country )

** Tax clearance receipt in original
** Green Tax receipt in original
** Emission certificate –Euro 03/Euro 04 compliant
** Vehicle should be brought for physical inspection

Please Note :
After registration,the applicant is required to produce the vehicle for fitness inspection with the number plate displayed both at the front and the rear,exactly as per the standards prescribed by RSTA regulations.Please note that slanting/shiny letters/numbers and embossed numbers are not allowed.

Caution! :
An application for vehicle registration must be completed within 15 days from delivery of vehicle from the Custom Authority or the authorized dealer. The penalty for exceeding 15 days is Nu. 100 per day.

Renewal/Duplication RC

What should I do when renewing a registration certificate?:
** The owner of the vehicle must arrange to renew the registration certificate from the expiry date of the current registration after furnishing the registration certificate to the authority (any Regional or Base Office) for amendment.A late penalty of Nu.10/- per day for all types of vehicle will be imposed.
** The original registration certificate must be produced while renewing.

Note :
In case of any vehicle undergoing major repair,the owner must inform the authority in writing at the time of taking the vehicle for repair,and must surrender the registration certificate to the authority.

After the repair ,the owner must furnish an authentic evidence or a certificate from the concerned workshop after the repairs have been completed,showing the duration of repair.Approach the nearest RSTA office to renew your documents.

Fitness :
** The Vehicle fitness test must be done at the date of expiry (which is the same with the Vehicle renewal date). Failing to renew on or before expiry date shall be imposed a penalty of Nu.50 per day.

Vehicle fitness is considered to be one of most important work of the Transport Authority to insure that the car is safe to drive and is in good condition to run with out any problem for both self and other road users.

** RC Renewal and Motor Vehicle Fitness fees.

Duplication of RC :
** Submit an application to the nearest Traffic police immediately for clearance and issuance of duplicate license.

** The concerned owner of the vehicle must then inform the nearest RSTA for duplication of RC in writing with the valid Registration number.
** Duplication can be done in a day after verification and payment of nu.500/-

Additional Simplified Procedure

You can renew your vehicle registration online through the Road Safety & Transport Authority (RSTA) website.

Here are the steps on how to do it:
1. Go to the RSTA website: https://eralis.rsta.gov.bt/.
2. Click on the “Vehicles” tab.
3. Click on the “Registration Certificate Renewal” button.
4. Enter your vehicle registration number (VRN) in the “Vehicle Registration Number” field.
5. Click on the “Search” button.

6. If your vehicle is found, you will see the following information:
** VRN
** Vehicle make
** Vehicle model
** Vehicle year
** Vehicle color
** Registration expiry date

7. Click on the “Renew Registration” button.
8. Enter your contact information, including your name, email address, and phone number.
9. Enter your payment information, including your credit or debit card number and expiry date.
10. Click on the “Pay Now” button.

You will receive a confirmation email once your registration is successful. You can then print out your new registration certificate from the RSTA website.

Here are some requirements for renewing your vehicle registration online:
** Valid vehicle registration certificate
** Proof of ownership (vehicle registration book or RC book)
** Proof of insurance
** Proof of roadworthiness
** Payment of registration fee

You can also renew your vehicle registration in person at any RSTA office. The requirements are the same as for online renewal, but you will need to bring the originals of the documents that you uploaded to your appointment.

Here are some important things to note when renewing your vehicle registration online:
** Your vehicle registration must be renewed before the expiry date.
** You can renew your vehicle registration up to 6 months before the expiry date.
** You will not be able to renew your vehicle registration if your vehicle is not roadworthy.
** You will not be able to renew your vehicle registration if your insurance is not valid.

  1. No forms for the replacement of duplication license in the RSTA website. Please update it.

  2. I have been facing the critical situations while crossing the Roads of Traffic Points through the Zebra Crossing (White marks on roads indicating permission to walk across the roads). Almost all the car (vehicles) drivers drive without following the Traffic rules, Roads rules and Town driving rule. They are dangerous. It seems they have never read the Driving rules, Road rules though they can drive so strongly, speedily over taking recklessly even over the Zebra crossing.
    It seems that is some thing like a hot war where the drivers do not mind crushing over the people.

    Can the concern Authority find out whether these cars drivers regardless of their status are really Bhutanese people? Could you check and punish these militant like people who attempt to kill the Bhutanese people?

  3. WEBSITE HAS BEEN DEAD FOR SO LONG AND I THINK THE WEBMASTER/ICT IS ALSO IN HIBERNATION.

  4. Cant I download registration form online?

  5. I have PD license. But I am working under government. Can I drive taxi during vacation?
    For that what I have to do?
