Loan Repayment:

Undergraduate Loan repayment starts within one year of completion of studies or within such a period as the Board decides to recall the loan whichever is earlier.

However, you can make voluntary payments before or after you leave your course which will reduce your balance earlier. For HELB payment options please click here.

Loan Statements:

Completion of Loan Repayment:

Upon completion of loan repayment, kindly seek clearance from HELB. Please note that only HELB and not your employer can confirm your loan repayment status. HELB shall confirm loan repayment completion by issuing certificate of clearance. For clearance, please fill in the Loan Recovery Enquiry Form and e-mail to: certificate@helb.co.ke (please quote your ID number).

Over Repayment:

If you overpay your loan, you will receive a refund from HELB and not your employer. To claim refund, please fill in the Loan Recovery Enquiry Form and e-mail to: refund@helb.co.ke

Alternative Loans (Post-Graduate, Continuing Education, Civil Servants Training Revolving Fund (TRF) and FUNZO):
Alternative loans are due for repayment immediately upon disbursement. Successful applicants shall be notified via e-mail. For any queries on Alternative loans, please fill in the Loan Recovery Enquiry Form and e-mail to: alternative@helb.co.ke

Loan Repayment Modes :

1. Cheques/Cash Deposit, EFT, Standing Order, (by employer or self):
All payments are payable to Higher Education Loans Board, by crossed cheque, Bankers draft, direct transfer/standing order/EFT or CASH DEPOSIT to HELB collection A/C in any of the following banks
** Kenya Commercial Bank
** Family Bank
** Co-operative Bank
** Barclays bank
** Standard chartered Bank
** Equity bank
** National Bank of Kenya
** Citibank

2. Mobile Phone Money Transfer (M-Pesa & Airtel Money):
Using M-PESA, please enter HELB business number as 200800
Using Airtel Money, please enter business name as HELB

3. Pesapoint & Equity Bank ATMs:
To repay your HELB loan through ATM, ensure that you include your NATIONAL ID number as your account reference number.

4. Credit or ATM (Debit) Card (VISA or MasterCard Branded):
One may also give authority to HELB to make monthly debits or lump-sum payments directly from his/her bank account or Credit card.

This is done by signing the CREDIT CARD AUTHORIZATION FORM (CCA) and then forwarding the same to HELB.

VISA or MasterCard branded credit or debit (ATM) cards can also be swiped at HELB offices.

Note:
National ID number MUST be included as reference in all payments and enquiries;
Payments MUST be made by the 15th day of the following month for employers and within the month for individuals (self-paying);
Payments (cheques) delivered directly at HELB payment office MUST be attached with remittance form;
For payments made directly to HELB bank accounts, the remittance form MUST be e-mailed to HELB (e-mail: remittance@helb.co.ke )
The remittance form is available from the HELB website Download Remittance Form
No payment shall be accepted without the remittance form

HELB Bill Payment Guidelines:

Using M-PESA (Safaricom) money transfer:
On the M-pesa menu:
** Select Pay bill option
** Enter HELB business number as 200800
** Enter your National ID number as your account number
** Enter amount you want to pay e.g. 3000
** Enter your secret PIN number
** Confirm transaction and send o Wait for SMS confirmation.

Using Airtel money transfer:
On the Airtel Money menu:
** Select Make payments
** Select Pay bill
** Select Other
** Enter business name as HELB
** Enter Amount – e.g. 3000
** Enter your secret Pin number
** Confirm the transaction
** In the reference section, enter your National ID Number.
** You will instantly receive a confirmation via SMS from AIRTEL MONEY

Using Equity bank ATM:
On the ATM menu:
** Insert ATM card
** Key in your secret PIN number
** Go to ‘Pay bills’
** Select ‘HELB’
** Enter National ID number when prompted
** Enter amount
** You will get a slip indicating the ID and amount entered.

Using PesaPoint ATM:
On the ATM menu:
** Insert ATM card in the card slot o Remove ATM card from the slot o Select language
** Key in your secret PIN number
** Select “Pay Bill” button to proceed to the next screen
** Key in the code shown for HELB option as 5006
** Key in your HELB account number as your National ID number and confirm
** Key in your mobile no. (this will allow HELB to contact you if required)
** Key in the product you wish to pay for (undergraduate or postgraduate)
** Enter the amount you wish to pay for your loan
** The ATM will give you a receipt acknowledging payment for your HELB loan once the transaction is successfully completed.

Note:** Please allow up to three (3) days to update your loan account.

  1. My TSC Number is 393411 ID NO12721925I paid my loan in full and claimed my over payment since October 2016 now it has been five months what should I do now?

    I need to apply for a vacant which its deadline is tomorrow but from Tuesday last week I had been traveling from the far end of Busia county to Bungoma Huduma center at least to be given a notification to show that I am your beneficiary but had not started repaying the loan. Unfortunately I had been un-served.Please help me before tomorrow.

Kindly I got your letter for loan repayment but I have not understood this statement “You also informed that a penalty of Ksh 5000 will charge per month on any loan that remain unpaid from the date the loan falls due in July 2015” If for example I start paying now 2000 Ksh every month will you penalize me?
