The concessions scheme recognises that many Tasmanians on low or fixed incomes need assistance to afford basic services such as electricity.

The following concessions for eligible customers are applied as a daily discount:
** Annual electricity concession
** Medical cooling concession
** Life support concession

Customers may qualify for all three concessions provided the individual criteria of each concession is met.

Annual Electricity Concession:
The annual electricity concession provides a daily discount to eligible customers at a cents-per-day rate. The current concession is 125.71 cents per day.

Medical Cooling Concession:
The medical cooling concession provides a daily discount to eligible customers who have, or live with a person who has, a medical condition that requires the cooling of the customer’s principal place of residence in order to manage that condition.

The current concession is 37.653 cents per day. Customers must be eligible to receive the annual electricity concession to qualify for the medical cooling concession.

Eligibility Criteria:
Annual Electricity Concession:
The person seeking the concession must hold one of the following cards:
** Pensioner Concession Card (Centrelink or Veterans’ Affairs); or
** Health Care Card; or
** ImmiCard (Bridging Visa E); or
** Tasmanian Concession Card (issued by the Department of Premier and Cabinet).

The name on the concession card must match the name of the account holder of the electricity account. The concession recipient must be responsible for the payment of the electricity account.

The annual electricity concession is only available for the customer’s principal place of residence. Concessions cannot be claimed for holiday homes or investment/rental properties.

The electricity account must be billed at a general domestic tariff rate or its equivalent. Electricity accounts that combine domestic and commercial or business tariffs are not eligible for the concession.
