Post Donation Advice:
Do’s:
** Keep the band aids on your arm for next 6 hours
** Drink plenty of fluids for next 48 hours
** Lie down or sit down with your head between your knees if you feel dizzy
** Continue your routine activities
** Have a balanced diet with foods rich in iron and vitamin C like red meat, liver, green leafy vegetables, beans, lentils, and fruits like oranges, papaya or lemons.
** If you experience any bleeding from the donation site, raise your arm and apply pressure with other hand. If you notice redness, pain or swelling or a bruise at the donation area, please contact the blood bank for assistance.

Don’ts:
** Please do not leave the blood bank area immediately after donating blood.
** Avoid alcohol and smoking for the rest of the day
** Avoid strenuous or risky work or exercise on the day of donation.
** Avoid lifting heavy objects with the arm used for blood collection for the rest of the day.

What is blood?
Blood is the red colored fluid flowing continuously in the body. It acts as transport system carrying various essential substances and also as a defense system against infections. On an average, a human being has about 3 to 5 liters of blood.

Males: Multiply 75ml to your weight in kilograms
Females: Multiply 65 ml to your weight in kilograms

What is the composition of blood?
Blood mainly contains fluid called plasma and cells. There are three types of cells- Red Blood Cell (RBC) which carry oxygen from lungs to various tissues with the help of hemoglobin (Hb) , White Blood Cell( WBC) which acts as immune system of the body and Platelets which facilitate the process of blood clotting.

How many type of blood groups are there?
Each individual will have one of the following blood group:
** A positive
** B positive
** AB positive
** O positive
** A Negative
** B Negative
** AB Negative
** O Negative

Where is blood formed?
Blood cells are formed in bone marrow of bones, especially the vertebrae, ribs, sternum, hips, skull and sternum.

How long will it take to replenish the donated blood?
Liquid part is replenished in 2 days and cells within 21 days.
