Additional Simplified Procedure

The Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP) Nepal Safe Motherhood Programme is a national program that aims to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity in Nepal. It was established in 1997 and has since made significant progress in improving the health of mothers and newborns in the country.

The program focuses on three main strategies:
Promoting birth preparedness and complication readiness (BP/CR):
This strategy aims to educate women and their families about the importance of planning for childbirth and being prepared for complications. It includes activities such as saving money for delivery costs, identifying a skilled birth attendant, and making arrangements for transportation to a health facility.

Birth preparedness and complication readiness:
Aama Suraksha Program (Free Maternity Care Program): This program provides free delivery care at public health facilities and some private facilities. It also provides cash incentives to women who complete four antenatal care (ANC) visits and deliver in a health facility.

Aama Suraksha Program:
Expansion of 24-hour emergency obstetric care services: This strategy aims to ensure that all women have access to emergency obstetric care in case of complications during pregnancy, childbirth, or the postpartum period.

The MOHP Nepal Safe Motherhood Programme has been successful in reducing maternal mortality in Nepal.
