A Transit Visa, as its name implies, is an entry permit granted to a foreign national for admission into Sri Lanka for a brief period which is incidental and in the course of his journey to another destination.

Who Can Apply For Sri Lanka Transit Visa?
** Any foreign national who is en-route to another country via Sri Lanka is the only eligible applicant for transit visas.
** A Transit Visa is not required by a passenger who enters Sri Lanka in the course of an unbroken journey, and the journey is to be continued by the same vessel or carrier.
** A Transit Visa will also not be required from any person or group when an airline provides a list of such transit passengers and undertakes to carry them on their next available flights.

** Processing time: 1-2 business days.
** Fees: USD 35 for citizens of most countries (check the website for specific fees).
Documents required:
** Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date.
** Confirmed onward flight ticket.
** Proof of sufficient funds (USD 200 per day of stay).
** Hotel booking confirmation (optional).
Note: You cannot extend or convert an ETA to another visa type.
2. On arrival at Colombo Airport:
** This option might be suitable if you are unsure about your travel plans or have a short connection time.
** Eligibility: Same as online ETA (stays up to 7 days, eligible nationalities).
** Processing time: Upon arrival, potentially causing delays.
** Fees: Same as online ETA (USD 35).
