What is OWWA Death Benefit?

Death Benefit is a insurance benefit to survivors of deceased OFWs who were active OWWA members at the time of death. The beneficiary is entitled to Php 100,000.00 for deaths due to natural causes and Php 200,000.00 for accidental death. Burial Gratuity – in addition to the death benefit, a funeral grant of Php 20,000.00 is given to the beneficiaries of the deceased OFW to assist them for the decent burial of their loved ones.

Requirements of OWWA Death Benefit

Copy of Passport or Seaman’s Identification Record Book (SIRB) of the OFW – Member MARINA

How To Apply For OWWA Death Benefit?

** Visit the OWWA Regional Welfare Office that covers the permanent address of the OFW.
** Get queuing number or queue in the line.
** Present OFW I.D. or info to the Membership Verification Desk, based on status of membership obtain application form and checklist of requirements.
** Submit accomplished claim form and required documents for validation / evaluation.
** For approved applications, proceed to present claim stub and claim financial assistance through check or cash pay-out.

Additional Simplified Procedure

Eligibility:
** The deceased must be a registered OWWA member at the time of death.
** The death must have occurred while the deceased was working abroad or within one year of their return to the Philippines.

Requirements:
** Accomplished OWWA Death Benefit Claim Form: You can get this form from the OWWA Regional Welfare Office that covers the deceased’s permanent address.
** Death Certificate of the deceased: This should be an original copy issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
** Proof of relationship to the deceased: This could be a marriage contract, birth certificate, or affidavit of two disinterested witnesses.
** Two (2) valid IDs of the claimant: These could be government-issued IDs like SSS, GSIS, PhilHealth, driver’s license, etc.
** Joint Affidavit of Two Disinterested Persons: This should be notarized and state that they witnessed the administration of the burial rites.
** OWWA CENOMAR: This is only required for single deceased OFWs.
** Marriage Certificate: This is needed if the claimant is the spouse of the deceased OFW.
** Birth Certificate of the OFW: This is required if the claimant is the parent of the deceased OFW.
** Birth Certificate of the claimant and death certificate of the deceased spouse: This is needed if the claimant is the child of the deceased OFW.

Process:
** Visit the OWWA Regional Welfare Office: Find the office that covers the deceased’s permanent address. You can find a list of regional offices on the OWWA website: https://owwa.gov.ph/.
** Get a queuing number or wait in line.
** Present the OWWA ID or information of the deceased at the Membership Verification Desk.
** Based on the deceased’s membership status, obtain the application form and checklist of requirements.
** Accomplish the claim form and gather all the required documents.
** Submit the completed claim form and documents for validation and evaluation.
** If approved, you will be given a claim stub. Present this stub to claim the financial assistance through check or cash payout.
