Check Visa Application Status Online

An Online Enquiry service may enable you to view the current status of your application on our website, provided that the function is activated when we receive your application.

To ensure this you must provide your email address in the contact details section of your application form.

When this service is activated by the officer who receives your application, an automatic email is generated and sent to your nominated email address.

The email contains instructions on setting up your personal homepage, through which you will be able to track the progress of your application/s with Immigration New Zealand.

If you are having problems with the instructions in that email, please contact our Immigration Contact Centre via email or phone.

Already submitted an Online application :
If you have submitted an online application (eg. Working Holiday or Expression of Interest) your online account is already set up – you need to log back in to your Online Services account and click on “My application” link on the right hand side.

How long it takes to process your visa application
** We process applications as soon as we can. Processing times depend on whether you have provided all the documents we need and the type of visa you apply for.

Returning passports urgently :
** If you need your passport urgently contact the officer processing your application directly. Include your client number or application number, why you need your passport returned and your contact information.

Processing times :
** Most visa applications are processed within the times given below, but they can take longer in some situations. Applications may take longer to process if we need to check your information or request more information from you.

Additional Simplified Procedure

You can check the status of your visa application online through the Immigration New Zealand (INZ) website.

Here are the steps on how to do it:
1. Go to the INZ website: https://www.immigration.govt.nz/.
2. Click on the “Visas” tab.
3. Click on the “Check your visa application status” button.
4. Enter the following information:
** Your passport number
** Your date of birth
** The visa application number that was given to you when you submitted your application
5. Click on the “Submit” button.

You will be able to see the status of your visa application. The possible statuses are:
** Pending: Your visa application is still being processed.
** Approved: Your visa application has been approved.
** Rejected: Your visa application has been rejected.
** Cancelled: Your visa application has been cancelled.

If your visa application is approved, you will be able to download your visa vignette from the INZ website. You will need to present your visa vignette to the immigration authorities when you enter New Zealand.
