How To Order Birth/ Death/ Marriage Certificates Online in New Zealand?
You can order birth, death, marriage, civil union and name change certificates online. All standard certificates cost $33.

Get the details the certificate needs
You need to provide:
** Full names of the people whose certificate you are ordering
** date of the birth, death, marriage, civil union, or name change.
** It helps with the search if you know the place of birth, marriage, or civil union.
** If we cannot find a record, we will keep NZ$25.00 of your payment as a search fee. This is non-refundable. We will contact you to see if you want to continue searching or have the rest of the fee refunded.
Get some information about yourself
When you order a certificate you have to provide information about yourself. Even if you’re ordering someone else’s certificate.
You need to provide information about one of the following events:
** Your birth in nz, or
** your marriage or civil union in nz, or
** your child’s birth in nz, or
** your name change in nz if you’re ordering your name change certificate.
If none of these apply to you, you can’t use this online service.
We use the information to check who you are, then record your name in the Access Register. The register is a record of who orders certificates.

Standard post is free anywhere in the world.
NZ courier cost is $5.

You can’t order online if you need an apostille, authentication or legalisation. You need to contact Births, Deaths and Marriages
