Applicants for learner’s license are required to complete an application form stating clearly their name, date of birth, nationality and other relevant information.

The passport or birth certificate of the applicant together with the completed application form is required to process the learner’s license. A fee of $60.00 is payable for the learner’s license which is valid for three months from the date of issue.

Test Fee

Prior to the expiration of the learner’s license the applicants should make an appointment to undergo the driving test. On the date of the test, set by the applicant, he/she is required to pay a road test fee of $150.00 and must also bring along an insurance certificate to provide coverage for both he and the examining officer in the event of accident or injury.

On successful completion of the driving test, the applicant is issued a Certificate of Competence, which should be taken to the Inland Revenue Division for payment of the appropriate Driver’s license fees.

License Category

In Dominica five (5) classes of drivers licenses are issued
** Class A
** Class B
** Class C
** Temporary or Visitors license
** International license

Class A :
This license is issued to motorcyclist only. Such persons are not permitted to drive any other motor vehicle apart from the motorcycle. If the individual wishes to obtain a license to drive other vehicles apart from the motorcycle he must again go through the process of obtaining a learner’s license. An annual fee of $40.00 is payable for the Class A License.

Class B :
Persons who are issued this license are able to drive private vehicle such as cars, jeeps, vans and trucks, which weigh less than one ton. In addition, the holder of such class of license can also ride motorcycle without having to apply for another learner’s license. The annual license fee is $80.00; however, if fees are paid for three (3) years a 10% discount is given to the individual.

Class C :
Class C license is issued to persons who drive heavy machinery, buses and trade vehicles. Persons who are applying for a Class C license must be at least 21 years of age, and have one-year driving experience and be the holder of a valid Class B driver’s license.

Before receiving a Class C license, the Individual must again undergo a road test. If the individual is successful on the road test, he will then proceed to pay the fee for the Class C license.

Any balance of time remaining on the Class B license then becomes void and the Class C license will be the only valid license. The annual fee is $100.00, but if paid for three (3) years a 10% discount is issued.

Temporary License :
This license is granted to visitors who are in possession of a valid foreign license and wish to drive in the state of Dominica for a period not exceeding twelve months.

This license may be granted for a minimum of one month, and a maximum of three months.

Visitor Permits are also issued by motor vehicle/cycle rental agents who have been authorized to do by the Commissioner of Police. The fee for one (1) month is $30.00 and $60.00 for three (3) months.

International License :
An international license enables individuals to drive in a country of which they are non-resident. It is valid for one year from the date of issue and can only be used in the various countries as specified on that document.

To obtain an International License, the applicant must
** Be the holder of a valid Dominican driver’s license
