Financial Assistance Scheme for Provision of Technical :

Aim:
To facilitate the life and/or to promote independence and full participation of persons with disabilities in social and economic life through financial assistance for the provision of the appropriate technical means, instruments and other aids.

Beneficiaries:
Citizens of the Republic of Cyprus with severe motor, sensory and other disabilities.

Terms of Participation:
1. The financial assistance provided shall cover 80% of the final price of the requested technical mean and up to a maximum amount which shall be determined from time to time upon recommendation of the committee which shall examine the applications. Assistance of up to 100% of the final price shall be granted in exceptional cases of people with very low income.
2. Priority should be given depending on the severity of the disability and the degree of satisfaction of both the specific objective (movement, employment, health, subsistence) and the general objective which is independence;
3. Technical means, instruments etc. shall be provided on an individual basis and serve and belong to the beneficiary and not to institutions, organisations, schools or other persons. In case such instruments or means, which were purchased with the provision of financial assistance from this Scheme, are not used or in case the beneficiary passes away, they should be returned to the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities.
4. The Scheme shall not cover the provision of orthotic and prosthetic limbs or other aids provided by other government schemes or laws.

Applications:
1. Persons interested in participating in the scheme shall submit their application on a special application form, to the Director of the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, together with the relevant certificates;
2. The applications shall be examined by a special committee presided by the Director of the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities or by an Authorised Officer of the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities. If necessary, representatives from other government services shall be also invited to participate in the committee.
3. During the processing of the application, the committee may request the applicant to be present personally.

Note:
Each application should be accompanied with the following:
a) Recommendation by a doctor or therapist on the necessity
of the technical mean/instrument/aid;
b) Other documents describing the object or/and a photograph thereof;
c) Pre-invoices or a written offer from at least 2 suppliers of the object.

About Us :
The Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities has been established as from 1.1.2009, according to the Ministers’ Council Decision n. 66.763 dated 6.2.2008, as a new Department of the Ministry and Social Insurance.

The Department operated, at the beginning, with seconded and interchangeable staff since its permanent posts were not filled.
