FAQs :
I left Israel and have not been exempt from the army. Can I visit Israel? “I am 22 years old. I left Israel with my parents when I was 17. I have not been exempt from military service. I would like to visit friends in Israel. Will I encounter problems at Ben Gurion airport?”
If you never established your status with the Israel Defense Forces authorities you will be required to do so upon your arrival in Israel. Please refer to the chapter on Military Status.

Can a non-Israeli join the IDF? “I am not Israeli but I would like to join the IDF. What do I need to do?”
The Defense Service Law applies :
A. To all citizens of the State of Israel (in Israel and abroad), even if they have another citizenship, and even if they live permanently abroad;

B. To permanent residents of Israel, even if they are not Israeli citizens. Regarding volunteering to the IDF

I am an Israeli born abroad. Do I have to serve in the IDF? “I am an Israeli who was born abroad. I have lived abroad all my life. Am I obliged to compulsory military service in the IDF?”
Individuals intended for military service born abroad and “sons of immigrants” whose permanent place of residence is outside Israel, are not obliged to military service as long as they reside abroad with their parents.

Notwithstanding, they must come to the nearest Israeli mission to register and to receive a deferral to report for defense service. Please refer to the section on Establishing Military Service Status on the website.
