You can apply for, renew or update your passport and pay for it online. You’ll have to print out a form at the end.

Beta services on GOV.UK :
GOV.UK is building new services and redesigning existing ones. These are sometimes called ‘beta’ services.

Beta means that the service is not completely finished but it will still do everything it’s designed to do. Beta services will sometimes be available at the same time as an older, existing service and you can choose which one to use.

Using a beta service :
Beta services are designed to be easier to use than the services they replace. You shouldn’t experience any difficulty when you use a beta service.

GOV.UK makes beta services available to users so that it can collect feedback and data. This is used to improve the finished service.

Replacing old services :
Successful beta services eventually replace any other older services that perform the same task.

This doesn’t mean it won’t be improved again – GOV.UK is always being updated based on feedback from members of the public and other government departments.

Beta services on GOV.UK must follow the same rules for accessibility, cookies and privacy as existing services.

It takes at least 6 weeks to get your first adult passport once your form has been received. For all other application types, it takes 3 weeks.

You should use a different service if you need your passport urgently.

Other ways to apply :

You can pick up passport application forms from your local Post Office and apply by post, or use the Post Office Check and Send service.

Passport Check & Send service :
Use the Check & Send service at selected Post Office branches to reduce the chances of your passport application being rejected. You can’t use this service if you apply online.

Find a Post Office that offers the Check & Send service – choose ‘Passport Check & Send’ from the drop down list.

What the service does :
Take your completed application form, photos (and supporting documents if you need them).

The Post Office Check & Send service will check you’ve :
** filled in the right sections of the application form
** got the right supporting documents (including photos)
** paid the right fee

They will send your application to Her Majesty’s Passport Office (formerly Identity and Passport Service) by Special Delivery.

Using Check & Send is usually faster than posting your own application. Her Majesty’s Passport Office may still need to contact either you or your countersignatory to check details.

Using the Check & Send service doesn’t guarantee your passport application will be successful.

The Check & Send service is free if you qualify for a free passport.

How to pay :

** credit or debit card
** postal order (payable to ‘Post Office Limited’)

You can ask for a refund of the Check & Send fee (£8.75) if the Post Office makes a mistake checking your form. You can’t get any other refund if your application is rejected.
