This effort is one way in which the IRD proves itself in serving its valued customers, the Tax paying public of Dominica. The various types of Taxpayers served can be very diversed. We have Tax payers with different levels of income, different levels of education, different levels of understanding and different levels of commitments in complying with the Tax requirements.

While we pride ourselves with the effort, it is important that we recognize the many challenges and misunderstandings that are experienced each year. These challenges and misunderstandings can be classified as follows :
Taxpayers wait for the very last minute to seek assistance in filing their Tax Returns. This in itself tends to put alot of pressure on staff in having to deal with a large number of persons on the last day of filing and at the last hour.

Many Taxpayers with business income come to the division with tons of bills and receipts and expect the assisting officer to compute the totals for determining their net Income.

Some persons come in with the Tax Return completely sealed as was received in the mail.

Tax Payers are of the opinion that once the Tax return was filed with the assistance of a Tax Officer, the tax return is true and correct and does not expect the Tax Return to be reviewed. The common saying is “it was done with the assistance of one of your officers, so how could it be incorrect’.

In this regard Inland Revenue Division would like to inform all its valued customers and the entire public that we will continue to provide assistance to its clients, no one will be refused or deprived of the services. However, we humbly ask that you assist us in our efforts to assist you.

We would appreciate it, if each and every Taxpayer be mindful of the following conditions for filing their Tax Returns :
** You should ensure that you have all supporting documents necessary for filing your Tax Return as early as possible. Remember the last day for filing your Personal Income Tax Return is March 31st. Documents or statements required from a third party such as the banks should be requested long before the filing due date.
** Tax payers with business income are expected to compute their figures required for preparing the Income Statement before coming to the Inland Revenue for assistance. This will assist in saving time when you are being served.
** You are advised to fill in all information about yourself such as Name, Address, etc before seeking assistance. The efforts of the IRD staff should be mainly in computing your Tax Taxable Income and determining your Tax Liability/Refund.
** When you have received assistance from the staff of the IRD, you should bear in mind that the officer is only assisting you in completing the Tax Return with the information that you have provided. The officer is not doing a Tax Audit at that time, hence you should expect the Revenue to contact you at a later date should your Tax Return come up for Audit.

The Inland Revenue would like to take this opportunity to thank all Taxpayers for their support over the years and ask that you continue to support us in our efforts of administering the Tax legislations of Dominica. To those Taxpayers who do not fully comply with the requirements of the Tax laws, we call on you to join in and acknowledge your civic duties as true and patriotic Dominicans. We strive to efficiently, effectively and fairly administer the Tax Laws and Regulations of Dominica so as to provide for the enhancement of our people.
