FAQs :
What does “biometric” mean?
Biometric is defined by the American Heritage Dictionary as “The measurement of physical characteristics, such as fingerprints, DNA, or retinal patterns, for use in verifying the identity of individuals.”

Keeping biometric details of citizens and aliens is the only way that The Gambia can keep accurate records of every individual in the country.

Why do you need to take my fingerprint?
The fingerprint is the physical characteristic that the GAMBIS project will use to identify citizens and aliens biometrically. The Enrollment Officer will take a scan of your thumbprint.

What do I do if my card is lost or stolen?
If your card is lost or stolen, you should report the loss to the police department immediately and receive a police report on that matter. You should also complete the GID 007 form: Details of a Lost/Stolen Card.

Once you have compiled the necessary documents, you may apply for a replacement card using the appropriate Replacement/Renewal form and producing original and copy of the police report. Please ask the Customer Service Representative for further information

Why do I need to provide copies of my supporting documents?
It is a legal requirement that the Gambia Immigration Department keep records of all identity cards issued. In order to comply with statutory requirements, it is compulsory that copies of your supporting documents are stored along with your application form.

Applying for an identification card is very streamlined and efficient. Simply complete the following steps :
** Pick up an Application Form
** Submit your completed Application Form
