COVID-19 Small Business & Recovery Grant Program

The purpose of this grant program is to assist small businesses across a number of sectors to sustain themselves, recover, re-open, build capacity and innovate whilst continuing to be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This will be a competitive merit based program, with limited funding of $15 million. Up to 3000 grants will be awarded.

Purpose

A limited number of grants of $5,000 are available to assist small businesses that
** Operate in sectors that are heavily reliant on the visitor economy and will continue to be directly or indirectly impacted by border closures; OR
** Continue to be significantly impacted directly or indirectly by public health restrictions; OR

** Are reliant on contributing to the local supply chain of sectors that continue to be directly or indirectly impacted by border closures or public health restrictions; OR

** Are heavily reliant on exporting a significant proportion of their product to interstate and/or international markets that continue to be directly or indirectly impacted by COVID-19 related restrictions.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for a grant an applicant must first meet all eligibility criteria outlined below.
** Have employed fewer than 20 Full Time Equivalent staff (FTEs) at 29 February 2020.

** Have an Australian Business Number (ABN) – this ABN must be for the applicant business, have been active on or before 29 February 2020, and continues to be active.

** Have an annual turnover of more than $50 000 (excluding GST) for 2018-19 or 2019-20 financial year OR for recently established businesses, estimate that annual turnover will exceed $50 000 (excluding GST) in the 2020-21 financial year.

** At least 50 per cent of the business owner’s income must be derived from the applicant business.
** Businesses must predominantly operate in Tasmania and business owners must reside in Tasmania.

Application Process

** This is a competitive merit-based process. Meeting the eligibility criteria will not automatically result in a successful grant.

** Once the applicant has confirmed their eligibility, they should read the program guidelines carefully and refer to the frequently asked questions to assist in submitting an application.

** Applicants should complete and lodge an application online via SmartyGrants from the Business Tasmania website www.business.tas.gov.au. Applicants who are unable to apply online via SmartyGrants can access a manual application by calling Business Tasmania on 1800 440 026.

** Applications will be assessed by departmental assessment team and forwarded to an independent panel for decision.
** Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application once considered by the independent panel.

Timeline

The grant program will open on 3 August 2020 at 12 noon and close on 24 August 2020 at 12 noon. Assessment of applications will commence on 25 August 2020.
