Renew Damaged/Unreadable Driving Licence :
Is your driving licence damaged? Or has it become unreadable? Visit the municipality to apply for a new or replacement driving licence. A replacement driving licence will be valid until the same date as your old driving licence.

Make an appointment :
** Apply for your driving licence in person at a counter of the Department of Public Service. You can make an appointment for this online.
** Pick up your driving licence in person at the city district office where you applied for it. You must collect it within 3 months after applying for it. After that the document will no longer be valid and the municipality is obligated to annul it. You will then have to apply and pay for it again.
** When applying for a new driving licence and you are not yet 60, then, in most cases, the driving licence will be valid for 10 years.
** Please note : Are aptitude requirements applicable- Then you need to be retested.
** If you are applying for a replacement driving licence, this licence will be valid until the same date as your old driving licence.

What to bring when renewing or replacing your driving licence :
** The damaged or unreadable driving licence.
** A valid form of identification.
** A passport photo. Strict rules apply to passport photos. For example, the photo has to be a good likeness, in colour and taken straight from the front. A list of all the requirements can be found in Passport photo requirements.
Conditions :
Are you applying for a new driving licence- Then the same conditions apply as they would to Renew a driving licence.
Citizenship requirements :
To obtain a driving licence, you need to meet 1 of the following conditions :
** You are a citizen of one of the EU or EEA member countries or of Switzerland.
** You have a valid residence permit.
Please note :
You may not drive without a valid driving licence. You may only resume driving a motor vehicle when you have received the replacement or new driving licence.
Who is it for :
Anyone who has passed the driving test in the Netherlands.
Driving licence fees :
** Application for a driving licence : € 38.45 (rate for 2014)
** Expedited application for a driving licence : € 38.45 + € 34.10 supplement = € 72.55
These fees must be paid upfront when you submit your application. You can only pay by bank card at the district offices; however, you can also pay cash, as well as by bank card, at the Centrum district office (City Hall).
How long does it take :
** 5 working days.
** Do you need your driving licence urgently? Then you may use the expedited procedure, in which case you will receive your licence after a maximum of 2 working days (if the application is submitted before 14.00 hrs.). This procedure is more expensive.
